nvidia drivers crash cinnamon after upgrade from 18.3 to 19.2
Hi there! I upgraded my Mint laptop today because I needed luks2 support on it (to mount encrypted usb disks). Now when I don't configure niveau drivers in the driver manager cinnamon won't start correctly. Also I tried installing bumblebee since I have intel and nvidia graphics but that also doesn'...

Re: Need help debugging system freezes
...i know absolutely nada about btrfs & it's features & configuration, so if you don't mind me asking such, as the above got me quite curious: are both / & /home supposed to be mapped on /dev/sdb1? nothing to do with btrfs, its just an encrypted home directory stored in the folder /home...

Re: Need help debugging system freezes
You ARE being helped, and by one of the real experts here. What he suggested is one of the most tried and true methods. Don'e be so quick to criticize vthat which you clearly do not understand.. Well, thanks for your reply, though I don't really understand the point of it. Yes, I was luckily helped...

Re: Need help debugging system freezes
I would venture to say that your freezes are the result of you graphics care Nividia and Nouveau driver. either set the nouveau to nomodeset or install the correct nvidia driver for you card by going to Menu> Administration> driver manager. If you want to continue to use nouveau you will have to ed...

Re: Need help debugging system freezes
I said no such thing. I said to create a new user account for testing purposes , definitely not to replace your main account with its customizations. Yes. But as I explained in a reply: The frequency of freezes is so extremely low and doesn't happen at all when the system is idle that I can't do th...

Re: Need help debugging system freezes
well. thanks for hanging out in this forum and trying to help people who ask for it. I just don't feel helped but just told to not customize my system. I hope that there are ways to debug the system without removing anything that's not part of a default installation first.. (maybe a weak analogy:) I...

Re: Need help debugging system freezes
well, sorry, but that won't work. The freeze doesn't happen when the system is idle, it doesn't happen when I use the system for a few minutes, but mostly it works fine for hours. It didn't crash since I posted my first message in this thread, though it did crash two times in the hour before posting...

Need help debugging system freezes
Hi there! I am plagued by frequent system freezes: My mouse still moves, but I can't click anything and even the clock stops counting the seconds. I can't restart X with Strg+Alt+Backspace, I can't switch into a tty with Strg+Alt+F1..6. Information on my System: $ inxi -Fxz System: Host: Hostname Ke...

Re: Cursor freeze on Mint 19
I have the same problem with the touchpad randomly stopping to work, although I'm still on Linux Mint 18.3 on my Asus N550JV laptop. I found I can restore touchpad movement by either disabling and reenabling the touchpad with the Fn+F9 hardware keyboard combination, or by switching to another virtua...

Zenity stopped working
Zenity stopped working on my machine. Is this something I did or has there been an update that broke it? I'm on an Asus N550JV Laptop running Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon 64bit, with all the latest updates installed. Could anyone running the same Mint version with all updates test if zenity works for yo...

Wifi: Broadcom BCM4306 rev3 (Laptop Dell Inspiron 9100)
Hey there! I wanted to revive an old laptop of mine, a Dell Inspiron 9100. I tried both Linux Mint XFCE 17.1 and 18.2, and they both work okey in general, but the wifi makes problems. I still got an Windows XP installation on that machine which works fine but it's quite scary to connect that to the ...

Re: Linux Minut 17 Freezing
my hangs do not require a reboot, I simply need to switch to a tty and back. My power settings contain only one setting that fits your description, "Suspend when inactive for" which is configured to "Never" for both on power and on battery. Also my freezes don't happen after a lo...

Re: Linux Minut 17 Freezing
I've just dug out my "old" laptop (an Asus UX32VD bought 2012) which has been running Ubuntu 17.1 - I've upgraded it to 17.2 and installed all available updates and now I'm experience these freezes about once every 10 minutes or so (switching to a tty and back brings everything to live aga...

[SOLVED] GeForce GT 730 crashes
Okey so here's another update: on Ubuntu 15.10 using the proprietary Nvidia drivers does only work stable over longer periods of time if I only use the machine remotely via ssh. I think it might actually be getting worse over time (so the time it takes to crash decreases) Running Ubuntu 15.10 with t...

Hi there! Thanks for the response! You're second and third link look to me like they only apply to touchpads, where you can enable horizontal scroll either by edgescroll (scroll by moving the finger horizontally on the bottom edge of your touchscreen) or by two-finger-scroll (scroll by horizontally ...

[SOLVED] horizontal scroll by shift+mousewheel
Hi there! I am unsure if I imagine things but I thought that this had worked previously desktop-wide, and now only works in Chromium. I would like to be able to use Shift+Mousewheel to scroll horizontally (in any kind of content that can be scrolled horizontally) In Chromium this works, it does not ...
