Re: How often does LMDE2 crash?

With LMDE 1 in 2 years of running the average days between reboot was 38, max 50, with LMDE 2 the average days between reboot is 15 max 21, Mate seems to have some memory leaks, better now with the latest update to 1.12, so hopefully the average days between reboot get's better now. Re: External disk being recognized as 'sda' instead of 'sdb'

check the boot order in the bios as well, there may also be a boot other devices (or something like that) which will boot to other devices like usb sticks or drive, you may want to disable that for testing.

Re: VirtualBox 4.2.6

In Synaptic make sure you have the virtualbox-dkms installed for the 4.1.18-dfsg-1.1 version of virtualbox, that's the default in the Mint repos. I had a similar problem after the UP6 update as I have the virtualbox repo enabled, you may want to add that and the virtualbox key ring file check the vi...

Re: Newbie can't set up an internet connection

open a terminal window and type sudo ifconfig, give it your password and post back the info here, this will tell you what LMDE see for your adapter and ip address if any.

Re: No GUI after UP5 - how to get back?

the look at some of the other log files to see when your xorg crashes, ther is usually a xorg.errors.log or something like that if it's having issues, that should be in the same path or under /etc/X11/, this is a short clip of what my Xorg.0.log looks like: [ 23.739] X.Org X Server 1.12.1.902 (1.12....

have you looked in your Xorg.0.log to see what it says? sudo nano /var/logs/Xorg.0.log that should be the latest log file from the last boot.
