Re: Has anyone considered BSD
I was an LMDE user until a year back. Now, I have switched to Devuan Ascii Linux (without systemd) and also using FreeBSD 12beta. With FreeBSD, the availability of pre-built binaries (pkg) makes it much simpler and less time consuming (without relying on building ports). I'm using Gnome 3.28 with Fr...

Re: Mint OpenRC?
I'm also not liking systemd and looking for options after LMDE 2. @hd_scania: MX Linux with Cinnamon may be an option to consider. It is fast, with lighter foot print and stable too. Another option is Devuan, Refracta etc. Devuan is lacking the volunteers to successfully clone the very large and vas...

Re: HP 15q-by004az Realtek rtl8111 wifi not working at all
Someone else made an unofficial Linux driver available for RTL8723DE module: https://github.com/smlinux/rtl8723de You have to clone git source or extract zip and cd into rtl8723de directory in a terminal, do a "make", then sudo make install (if successful). To get WiFi working, sudo modpro...

That is sad to hear. Guess I made a wrong choice selecting AMD gfx card based system. I'm waiting for the arrival of a cheap ralink based usb wireless adaptor (onboard wlan module is not supported in Linux yet). Will report back.

AMD 520 2GB and Onboard Intel HD 620 Hybrid graphics support for HP Kabylake laptop
On my newly bought HP Laptop (Model: HP 15-BS576TX) which has a dedicated AMD 520 2GB DDR3 graphics card and Intel HD 620 onboard graphics in a Kabylake Core i5 processor system. No idea about dynamic switching of graphics card between integrated graphics and dedicated graphics card. My doubts are: ...

Headphone volume controls Speaker volume in Acer Gateway NE46RS1 Laptop
Hi, As my HP ultrabook has it's trackpad needing replacement, I purchased a cheap $198 Acer Gateway NE46RS1 laptop. This laptop has only an integrated speaker apart from headphone out. So, I found out that in alsamixer, it needs "headphone" volume increased so as to get sound from laptop s...

Re: How often does LMDE2 crash?
I'm using LMDE 2 installed on a SSD. The only problem is, my Dell E1914H monitor's resolution (1366x768@59.8Hz) is not properly detected and configured. With the monitor EDID and the nvidia drivers, the display is 1368x768@60 which affects the clarity (slightly). I did manage to bring back 1366x768 ...

Re: Live USB Not Booting. LMDE 2 Cinnamon 64-bit
If your hardware is recent, press F10(or whatever relevent key) to get a boot list for the live usb. Select the entry with UEFI mode. Also, if it's a BIOS-UEFI board, enable UEFI mode and try.
Also, list the hardware details, including graphics card and monitor resolution.

Hi, The problem of screen tearing seems to be slightly less frequent with the lines posted in /etc/environment as given above. I have had this problem of screen tearing with clutter+mutter(Gnome) in Debian for many times back. So, Something needs to be done with clutter and mutter(muffin) or the Nvi...

1366x768 mode not supported by nvidia in Dell E1914H monitor
Hello, At last I installed LMDE 2 on my SSD and everything worked fine. Even graphics is somewhat OK with the nouveau driver since I have a old XFX 7300GT card. Now, the problem. I have a Dell E1914H 18.5" LCD monitor bought recently. With Nvidia 304.125/128 driver it defaults into 1368x768 res...

Re: Should I switch to Linux Mint as an alternative to ubunt
Many new people gets a kick from reading RMS and FOSS movement, it seems. In real world, Proprietary technologies rules both h/w and s/w. We have to live with that (..that FOSS is not going to be 100% realized..neither GPL'ing every software or open hardware platform and other open x..y..z things. B...

Re: Gnome 3.14 released (will be in LMDE 2)
LMDE 2 might be a fit for you. It's expected around November this year, will be based on Debian 8 (stable) and will be fully compatible with Debian repos. You'll be able to use it for years, and so far I've understood that the whole "update pack" method of getting updates from upstream De...

Re: Gnome 3.14 released (will be in LMDE 2)
I use Gnome3.x with another distro on a failing hdd. I am looking for a Debian based distro which is synced directly with Debian stream(not Ubuntu), probably testing and sid, but comparatively up to date in softwares. I've a 180GB SSD and planning to install with GPT and EFI. I don't want Cinnamon; ...
