Upgrading Win7 to Win10 on a dual-boot installation

I have a Compaq Presario CQ56 with Win7 and LM17.2 dual-boot setup. This is an older machine without UEFI. I'm contemplating upgrading the Win7 to Win10 using the MS$ free download. Questions - is there a risk this will affect the LM installation? If so, what precautions should I take in advance? (I...

Thanks for that information. So that means that I should have backed up some files in that directory first? Is there any guidance on that in the installation notes somewhere?

Re: installed 17.2 over 17.1, printers gone

Which printers? The ones that I had configured prior to the update to 17.2 Yes, that much was already clear to me rightaway.... So, which printers? As in: manufacturer, model.... Pjotr, I appreciate your interest, but are you actually interested in trying to answer the question? I am NOT aski...

installed 17.2 over 17.1, printers gone

I have a dual-boot system Win7+LM and I just installed 17.2 over 17.1. My /home is on its own partition. The new installation works fine and all the files on /home are still there - except all my printer definitions have disappeared. Do I really have to go through the agony of setting them all up ag...

Re: Firefox - can't access pdf files

Hi, that helped me to identify the culprit.

It's this program - the PDF viewer- https://github.com/mozilla/pdf.js/
There's a warning that it can conflict with the Adobe Acrobat plugin (or other PDF viewer NPAPI add-on). Does that mean it's conflicting with evince?

Re: Firefox - can't access pdf files

Hello Karl, if I have stored a PDF file in a folder, then when I double-click on it, evince opens the PDF correctly. I can also access a PDF file when I click on the link in a document (not a web page), or copy the link from a document and paste the link into the URL field. I have tried all the Fire...

[solved]Firefox - can't access pdf files

Using Firefox I can no longer access URLs to files in PDF format. When I click on the link nothing happens. If I right-click on the link and select "open in new window", a new window opens but nothing appears. The Firefox version is the current 38.0. I checked the preferences -> applicatio...

Re: No Connection to Bluetooth Speakers

Hello Lumenary, I finally got back to trying this stuff out again. The version of Blueman is exactly the same Christopher Schramm version that you have. However I seem to be going backwards. I can get the sound settings test LH and RH speaker to work, but no music comes of the bluetooth speakers. I ...

Re: ASUS laptop suitable for LM?

I have an ASUS laptop that originally came with Win8, and I can verify that the partitions will look pretty strange. But aside from the secureboot and EFI things, it plays really nicely with linux. As for Win8 itself... well, I switched it down the line to Win7, if that says anything to you. I have...

Re: ASUS laptop suitable for LM?

One of the things that disgusts me about laptops these days is that they don't ship with optical drives anymore. I have two 10 year old laptops that I love but I doubt I'll ever replace them with anything from the current generation. Home-built PC all the way. You mean a DVD reader/burner? The lapt...

Re: Can't edit/rename/copy xorg.conf - read-only file syste

Hey I've found a solution - in the grub menu, select recovery mode. When the Recovery Menu appears, select the option "Clean". This remounts the file system in R/W mode, and when "Clean" finishes, you can select the root shell and restore xorg.conf to its original state, This sti...

[solved]Can't edit/rename/copy xorg.conf - read-only file

I have installed LM 13 xfce on an old Toshiba Satellite laptop and following the suggestions here http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=122257 got the Radeon 9500 video chips working in low-res mode. Following some other suggestions I then edited etc/X11/xorg.conf to change "vesa...

Re: No Connection to Bluetooth Speakers

Sorry about delay in responding, I've had a lot of other realworld stuff to deal with. I now have Rebecca 17.1 installed plus bluemon. I made the changes as you suggested to audio.conf and updated ppa: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cschramm/blueman You are about to add the following PPA to your system...
