How to update Chromium web browser?

My Chromium web browser needs updating. I did find instructions to update it online, but what the Update Manager is telling me is that it failed to fetch http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/dists/stable/release. So I suppose something's outdated here. What can I do about it? Here's the screenshot ...

Re: New installation of Linux Mint 17.3, Wi-Fi is being spotty.

I don't think my laptop is going to be able to do that without a reliable Wi-Fi connection. It doesn't have an Ethernet port.

EDIT: Got it downloaded -- don't bother asking me how the Wi-Fi held up long enough to do that. It's doing the "Make" thing now.

New installation of Linux Mint 17.3, Wi-Fi is being spotty.

When I've just turned the laptop on, the Wi-Fi works, but then it'll stop working. The rfkill command shows that nothing is being blocked. This is what the iwconfig looks like right this second: wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:off/any Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=20 dBm Retry short ...

That did it. I didn't realize that was a feature in BIOS. (Guess you can tell I don't mess around with BIOS very much.) Thanks!

I'm having trouble getting my laptop to recognize that a bootable USB stick exists.

Yes, I did change the boot order in BIOS so that it'll boot from USB first. Yes, I did download the Linux Mint ISO and put it on the USB drive. It's a new Toshiba laptop with Windows and I want Linux Mint.

What's a good Firefox or Chrome plugin to download a video?

Long story short, I have a recorded Google Hangout on Air video that I'm trying to shove over to Youtube and Youtube is being uncooperative. Is there something I could use to download this video off of the Google Hangouts event page so I can do a little light editing? The file exists and I can actua...

Re: Can someone recommend a video editor that works with MP4

Then you can export the audio stream as a separate file and do whatever. Then import that into the video editor. You can avidemux -> audio -> save = save audio track in original format. Edit the file (e.g. audacity), then avidemux -> audio -> main track -> source -> external mp3/ac3/wav file = repl...

Re: Can someone recommend a video editor that works with MP4

What exactly do you mean by "refused to open the file I want to work with in any kind of usable form"? Be specific. Did these editors open the files at all or not? The version of avidemux that's in the repos will recognize most any mp4 files I've tried. But mp4 is just a container which c...

Can someone recommend a video editor that works with MP4s?

The two I've tried so far are avidmux (which refused to open the file I want to work with in any kind of usable form) and Flowblade (WTH would a video editor not recognize the MP4s exist?). Can somebody suggest a good free one that can 1) extract a sound file from a video and 2) help me splice that ...

How to open a port / make sure it's open

Right now I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem with a cryptocurrency wallet and someone suggested to me that I make sure Port 45444 is open. Can someone tell me what that is, how I can make sure it's open, and how to open it if it isn't?

Re: Can someone recommend an office package that can nail PD

OK, so what I want to do is turn this file (<==is a link) into a PDF document. With links. According to WPS Presentation (what I've been using to get this far), the links are there but it can't export those links to PDF. According to LibreOffice, there are no links and, no matter how many times I ad...

Re: Can someone recommend an office package that can nail PD

Unfortunately none of those is the solution I'm looking for. An ideal situation for me would be for the links to stick when I'm actually exporting the PDF. Failing that, I need to be able to add the links to the appropriate text in the PDF.

Re: Can someone recommend an office package that can nail PD

Are you sure LibreOffice doesn't work? I tried exporting to pdf, and when it opened automatically in LibreOffice Draw, the link didn't work. But when I opened the same pdf in my default pdf reader, the link did work. PDF links are not working in my default PDF reader. And LibreOffice support staff ...

[SOLVED] Is there a office package that can nail PDFs?

So far the ones I've tried are: LibreOffice WPS Office Google Docs KOffice And I keep running into problems. KOffice doesn't like PowerPoint presentations, Google Docs doesn't like to convert to PDF, and WPS Office and LibreOffice strip out the links when I try to export a presentation to PDF. Can a...

Why won't LibreOffice Impress save links

Okay, right now I'm trying to work on a slideshow that's saved in PowerPoint format (for job reasons) and it won't save links for anything. Is Impress just broken or something?

Could someone recommend a good article spinning software?

Basically, I tried SpinnerChief, didn't work, WINE issues and VirtualBox has gone belly-up. So now I'm looking for something that's sort of like SpinnerChief but works for Linux Mint. Does anybody here know a good one?

OK, I imagine there's a way I can just download Linux Mint 17 here? (I have a USB thumb drive I never use that I could probably make into a bootable.)
