Trying to get internet with VPN in Linux Mint VirtualBox guest

I have a Linux Mint 17.3 32 bit guest in VirtualBox. I'm trying to get internet connections using my VPN (PIA). I've tried the PIA installer as well as the Network Manager guide. I can get internet initially using Network Manager, but then the internet connection is lost. My Windows 10 64 bit host f...

Re: LM 17.2 Cinnamon long shut down in VBox 5.0.0 on Windows

Problem came back. The problem is that the system takes a long time to log out. I will see if there is a Cinnamon setting somewhere to adjust this. Otherwise I will live with it.

Re: LM 17.2 Cinnamon long shut down in VBox 5.0.0 on Windows

Uninstalled VBox 5.0.0 and installed VBox 4.3.30. Same problem but also with mouse problems in the guest. Uninstalled VBox 4.3.30 and re-installed VBox 5.0.0 and original problem went away. Go figure.

LM 17.2 Cinnamon long shut down in VBox 5.0.0 on Windows 10

I'm running LM 17.2 Cinnamon in VirtualBox 5.0.0 using a Windows 10 host. The virtual machines take a long time to shut down for both 32 bit and 64 bit virtual machines. If I log into an Xfce4 destop session in the virtual machines the problem doesn't occur. I didn't have the problem in Windows 7 (I...

Re: How to quit Cinnamon desktop and get an X session

Ok. Thanks. My app doesn't have any problems with Xfce or Ubuntu, just Cinnamon. I thought that just running X out of Cinnamon might provide me with some direction. But you're right, I guess it's kind of pointless. Thanks for the reply.

How to quit Cinnamon desktop and get an X session

I have an app I've developed in Qt 5.3.1 that has display problems when using 3D accerelation in VirtualBox using Debian Cinnamon. It seems to happen with Cinnamon in any Linux distro I've tried. Once I boot into LMDE Cinnamon, how can I stop my Cinnamon session (I think I must start with Ctrl+Alt+F...

Re: Any info for an LMDE newbie?

Thanks you guys for the very informative posts. Yes, the post I originally made was for the main differences between the regular Cinnamon edition and the LMDE edition. But with your posts I learned a lot about Debian and LMDE. Like I said I'm a seasoned intermediate Linux user. I've tried many Linux...

Re: Any info for an LMDE newbie?

Yes I've been using Linux for several years now, mostly Ubuntu (even before Unity) and Mint, but I've tried other distros. I guess I could say I'm a seasoned intermediate Linux user. I always seem to come back to Mint. I have CInnamon, both 32 & 64 bit, XFCE, and Ubuntu, and now LMDE all in Virt...

Any info for an LMDE newbie?

I just installed LMDE2 Mint in VirtualBox. I wanted to try it out. What can I expect to be different about LMDE? Things I should know? The list doesn't have to be long. Just some info for LMDE newbies. I've been using the Cinnamon releases for quite a while now. I notice the LMDE has CInnamon also. ...

I also ran the application in Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit in VirtualBox with no problems. As a note, I installed the Cinnamon desktop on Ubuntu and the problem re-appeared.

LM 17 Cinnamon: Qt 5 developed app not displaying properly

I am running Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon 32 bit and 64 bit in VirtualBox 4.3.18 on a Windows 7 64 bit host. I am also running a Linux Mint 17 Xfce 32 bit virtual machine on the host. I am developing a Qt 5 application and it doesn't display properly (items missing) with 3D acceleration enabled in the Vir...
