Re: LMDE6 Will Not Boot From USB <SOLVED>
I tried both ways: fat32 and ntfs. Neither worked. I have moved on to testing other distros and have put Mint on the shelf for the foreseeable future.

Re: LMDE6 Will Not Boot From USB
What is the USB writer tool and where can it be found or downloaded? I used Etcher and also the Linux Mint Startup USB Disk Creator. Neither worked for booting up. Thanks.

Re: [SOLVED] The weather forecast applet refused to work
Running Sparky 8 MATE based on Debian 13 Trixie. The original fix worked a few days ago. Then this morning the weather icon didn't show current conditions but only the forecast. Tried the latest fix from today but it did NOT work. I just guess we'll have to wait until the REAL fix gets into all the ...

LMDE6 Will Not Boot From USB <SOLVED>
I installed LM 21.2 MATE via USB in "UEFI mode only" on my Lenovo Thinkpad L430, 8 GB mem. which is my testing laptop. LM 21.2 installed without a hitch. I then wanted to compare it with LMDE 6 by installing that on a separate partition. I then downloaded LMDE 6, verified the .ISO and flas...

Re: The weather forecast applet refused to work
This fix seems to work only if you're running MATE 1.26.x. I tried it on MX Linux 19.4 and 21.2.1 with MATE and it didn't work on either of them. Any ideas folks? Thanks.

Problems Installing Mint on Lenovo Thinkpad T490 or Other Laptop Brands <NOT SOLVED>
Has anyone had trouble installing Mint, Ubuntu or any Ubuntu based distro to a Lenovo Thinkpad T490 or any other laptop brands such as Dell, HP, Asus, Acer etc.? I have been able to install all of these distros OK on all previous Lenovo laptops I've owned until I tried to do so on my T490 which I up...

Re: Mint 21.2 DVD Install on Thinkpad T490 in BIOS Mode Fails <SOLVED>
Yep, the beta. And it runs like a charm. Mint has been sending updates and I install them as needed. Any and all updates to the final release will likewise come through to the beta version(s). Additional Note: I was able to install Ubuntu 20.04 then upgrade to Ubuntu 22.04. However, I was not able t...

Re: Thoughts on LMDE vs mainstream Mint
I really wanted to install Mint 21.2 from a DVD but it froze at the Installation Type screen. I have also had problems with some other previous versions of Mint main edition. Just installed LMDE 6 beta from DVD without a hitch. I just finished installing needed packages, including the MATE desktop, ...

Re: Mint 21.2 DVD Install on Thinkpad T490 in BIOS Mode Fails
I opted for LMDE 6. Installed on my T490 from a DVD without a hitch! The same experience I've had with any Debian based distro. So much for Mint main edition based on Ubuntu.

Re: Mint 21.2 DVD Install on Thinkpad T490 in BIOS Mode Fails
I have been retired for more than 15 years after more than 20 yrs. in I.T. and have aways been from the "old school". Always installed distros from CD/DVD over the past 17 years since Ubuntu 5.10. Why change now? I'll be looking into the suggestions made here in more detail. Thanks to ever...

The T490 came out in April 2019. Intel said at the time that BIOS mode would be eliminated in all processors starting in 2020.
Thank you.

Mint 21.2 DVD Install on Thinkpad T490 in BIOS Mode Fails <FINALLY SOLVED>
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T490, as well as a T450, T420 and two L430s. Has anyone had any success installing Mint 21.2 from a DVD in BIOS mode? For me it fails every time on my T490 at the Installation Type screen right after you select the partition to install on. The cursor just sits there spinning...

To agentwolf: Please take your security concerns to Jesse Smith at Distrowatch. distro@distrowatch.com. I have nothing to do with that link and already have LMDE 6 beta installed on my test laptop.

Wine Installation in LMDE5 <SOLVED>
I installed Wine 5.0.3-3 through Synaptic with wine-installer. It shows that it is installed with the command wine --version and it is in the Applications Menu. But when I right click on the .exe to install it, Open with Wine is not showing in the list. Any ideas?

Re: Replace Cinnamon with MATE
I do much testing of various distros just to see who writes good code and who doesn't. Ever since Ubuntu 5.10 I have used the Gnome 2 and MATE desktops because of their simplicity and familiarity. Cinnamon, KDE and other desktops would involve a learning curve which I simply don't have time for at t...

Re: Linux Mint freezing
Your memory report shows: Memory: RAM: total: 3.77 GiB used: 1.62 GiB (43.0%) That is high memory useage! No wonder you have freezing episodes. With my browser and Email open I'm currently using a mere 14%. Again, find a solid distro that works for you with low memory requirements and you'll be good...
