Re: Undo Flash-Player Removal

https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-install-adobe-flash-player-on-linux Don't know if that will work, give it a look. Personally I still use flash on several sites that have not converted. I've used it for years on three sites and don't quite see why this decision has been made for me. Hopefully the site...

Re: Simple way to change default kernel? Solved

My blinking problem occurs with -117. But on to my original question. As I was guided, with advanced options in GRUB I booted from ther old kernel -111 and then from update manager deleted -117. Then rebooted and -111 kernel was loaded. Then from update manager marked -117 not to be installed. Not t...

Re: Simple way to change default kernel?

In displaying the kernels to delete I noticed /remembered it also showed 4.15.0-117. But my system did not boot from it automatically but from 4.15.0-115. Also I could not find 4.15.0-117 installed in the kernel history. Makes me wonder if there was an error installing it. So I deleted the three ker...

Simple way to change default kernel? - solved

I have a nuance bug with 4.15.0-112 and 4.15.0-115 kernels that resolves if I boot from 4.15.0-111. I can manually change the kernel at boot but I need to do it each time I boot. Is there a simple way to set the kernel I want to boot from as default until a new kernel comes out and then switch back ...

Re: Mirror updates and downloads very slow

Yesterday there was a mint-mirrors update, 1.2.0 today I am getting the message could not refresh the list of updates. I am going to wait and see if it resolves itself before changing my settings. Usually just make thing worse.

Re: Anyone else get flickering desktop backgrounds and windows periodically on NVIDIA cards in Cinnamon?

my monitors are set to 16:9 1920 x 1080 and refresh rate is set at 60hz as the monitor requires. But both these settings were auto. Also I might have had two 24 in monitors when this started, can't be sure. I believe the problem has occurred 1 time today on the right monitor. Yesterday a couple of t...

Re: Anyone else get flickering desktop backgrounds and windows periodically on NVIDIA cards in Cinnamon?

I last posted in January on this problem. Still occurring. Have two monitors and can happen on either. Mostly the edge of the background flickers and can be stopped by clicking on the background. The problem started when I was on 18.3 cinnamon and is occurring on 19. Originally with nvidia GEFORCE E...

Re: Is this really meant to be installed?

I see you have two choices. Answer the questions we asked or reinstall 18.3. But if reinstalling 18.3 fails the same way 19.1 did that might point to what you did with gparted.

Re: Is this really meant to be installed?

Are you dual boot or just LM 19.1 by itself? I don't see the reason for running gparted. I suspect the LM installer thinks there is little space on the drive because of what you did with gparted. I suspect you need to run gparted and make the whole drive a ext4 partition if you are not dual boot. Ho...

Re: setting up partitions on new SSD (solved)

thanks for your reply. After some delay I got back to the upgrade. Your reply is accurate however it took a bit for me to understand. After building my new PC I attacked this problem again. My new nvme ssd 500 GB is totally unallocated. I used gparted to create a partition table - format - gpt then ...

setting up partitions on new SSD (solved)

I've just built my wife a new PC. I have installed the existing SATA SSD with LM 18.3 and an HDD used for backups of Luckybackup and Timeshift. I also have a new NVMe SSD that I plan to install a new LM 19 with a separate Home partition. I plan to use Gparted to setup partitions and use GPT partitio...

Re: Do I have a swap file / partition? SOLVED

Thanks for your answers. So I am not completely crazy, I did set swap to 2 GB. I don't remember seeing anything about this in the release notes. I ran
sudo swapon --show
which shows I have 2 GB active with zero used.
I have also change swappiness from 60 to 10
Thanks again, Rich

Do I have a swap file / partition? SOLVED

I intended to have a swap file when I installed 19 but on reviewing / updating my installation documentation I am not sure. I have 8 GB ram and I have never seen much more than half used. So having swap maybe mute. Using "top" command I see: Screenshot from 2019-06-29 09-04-07.png edit: ap...

Re: SOLVED running in software rendering mode

After looking and trying many things I have the nouveau driver loading consistently with no error. Not sure what I did. I think my kernel is corrupted. But since I need to upgrade to 19.0 from 18.3 on this machine that should resolved the problem. Also I think if I were to boot with the previous ker...

RESOLVED - Re: What are the mulitple *** in timeshift exclude patterns

Thankyou. Removed my - /home/userid/Documents/*** in the exclude tab and changed the userid /home/userid from include all to include hidden and I get what I wanted. The system and my configuration files that I backup daily. With Luckybackup I backup my documents daily.

RESOLVED -What are the mulitple *** in timeshift exclude patterns

While Timeshift is recommended for system only data I would like to backup my Home directory without the documents folders. I will use Luckybackup for them. But the home folder has a lots of system information such as configuration files. Much of the documentation I find on using Timeshift kind of g...

Swapped cards, do not get the "running in software rendering mode". Yet the inxi -Fxzd command gives the same error. "FAILED: nouveau". I am beginning to wonder if this problem has existed for 3-4 months, since my wife does little graphics she has not complained. I have noticed s...
