Re: Can't Upgrade to Tara

I don't see anything applicable in the forum guidelines. If this is a hard rule, please make it clear there. It's not. It's just something that we generally don't do here because it distracts from the topic at hand. That's all. The rest of my post was completely on topic, and the spelling correctio...

Re: Can't Upgrade to Tara

EmaRsk, we don't correct other people's spelling here unless it makes things unclear (spelling errors in names of packages and such). After all, this is an international forum, and for many of us, that means that we're using a foreign language, like I'm doing now. It's hard enough as it is, even wi...

Re: Can't Upgrade to Tara

Its possible , but its not automatic. […] its honestly easier it's loose your data lose Yes, I would reinstall. I think upgrading to a newer major version is not officially supported. Putting all your user data - and all of the configuration files you want to keep - on a separate partition would ma...

Re: Which application you use for periodic file archiving (backup)

I was shopping for a more proper backup solution than the simple rsync mirror I've been using for a long time, and at the moment I'm settling for BorgBackup. Some links I found useful: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Synchronization_and_backup_programs https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/User:...

Re: Ubuntu 19.10 to offer experimental support for ZFS

If it's not GPL'd, I've no interest in it. That's interesting. So I guess you're also not using Wayland, the various x11 libraries, xauth, xserver, xfonts, etc., neither OpenSSL or LibreSSL, sudo, zlib, neither wget or curl, ncurses, Python, Lua, Ruby, Vim, Neovim, bind9, file, fontconfig, libpcre,...

Re: What do you like bout mint?

I use macOS at work, and both Windows 10 and Linux on my personal laptop. I've been using Linux for almost two decades, and had my fair share of distro-hopping, including the "geeky" ones like Slackware, Gentoo, Arch, LFS, … (the only "big" one I never tried, for some reason, is Suse). I settled on ...

Re: Mint 17 and Windows 7

I don't think that Windows can boot from an external HD. You can use GParted to shrink your current partition and make a second one in free space you get, but - unless I remember wrong - you can't shrink a live (mounted) partition, this mean that you can't shrink the partition of the OS you're using...

Re: Windows 10 and MultiBoot

Since you hate Windows so much, did you try using Wine instead? Or maybe you could use Windows in separated virtual machines, instead of triple-booting. I don't understand what you mean with "Windows 10 will activate the Hibernation feature on Windows 7", but maybe you could migrate to Windows 10 an...

Re: splitting WAV files?

Code: Select all

apt-cache search "split wav"
wavbreaker - A tool to split wave files into multiple chunks

I have not tested it, though. I usually use ardour for my audio works.
