Re: Unredirect fullscreen windows now working in compiz 9.8.

Thanks aac74 for your post, it was really interesting to read. I had the same pb related to compiz slowing down my gaming (wine & steam). It took sooo long to fix it that i inquired to find out that there's only one dev for compiz at Canonical. The poor soul must be working 150% on Unity as well...

Re: Mint 13 XFCE

Reading this post i realised that i didn't thank the Xfce team for a formidable version. I switched to it for my mainstay Desktop Environment and no regret it' feels like my beloved Gnome2 (Mint menu + Mate applets = awesomeness ). So thank you guys for the polish and time spent to make it so smooth...

Re: Mint 13 KDE RC - Thoughts

Can anyone who has used both Mint 12 KDE and Mint 13 KDE give their comments and opinions on the changes from 12 to 13? Right now I am using Mint 12 KDE and am wondering whether there is any compelling reason to upgrade. Thanks, --Jim I installed aside my trusty ole KDE12 and ran into several trivi...

Re: Maya KDE Edition approved for RC release

Re: System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon

Here the result after 24 hours of testing the compiled Cinammon from Git : not one single freeze after several : reboots, launching/relaunching Jdownloader, Libreoffice... (on LM 13 32bits Cinnamon/Nvidia drivers). Only one oddity : cinammon killed itself when i clicked on the menu (after installing...

Re: System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon

"I have come to the conclusion that this version of Mint, as it stands now is not usable." I feel exactly the same as LTS is for many synonym with rock stable, however i am willing to cut some slack to Clem and his team because building a new gu is a very tough job all the more from Gnome3...

Re: System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon

After a brief respite, the freeze came back (after reboot). I'm a user of Jdownloader (fixed by installing Oracle Jre 6) / cinnamon 32bits / Nvidia propr. drivers. I installed the cinnamon from git according to Clem's instructions (very clear except for git and gnome-common installations required bu...

Re: System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon

Anyone else with hybrid graphics and Cinnamon freezes? No but i ran the latest updates and avoided using jdownloader and my cinnamon is now stable for 3h+ (lots of tests works Libreoffice on long documents, 3d gaming etc...). I'm beginning to think that my freezes were Java-related... i will reactiv...

Re: System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon

To BeatSmith : I had a freeze at the launching of Jdownloader too (i had to install Java Oracle 6 see the previous post). It is not the only cause of freeze according to the posts. I'm really suspecting that they are several causes to this.... it's going to take a while to go to the bottom of it. He...

Re: System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon

One test i did : install a gnome-independent D.E and no crashes (openoffice insert table + vlc fullscreen + java applications successfully test ). So i think that MDM should not be the main culprit here (mostly Cinnamon badly interacting with something_TM). CoreI5/750 / 4 gig / Nvidia drivers / 32bi...

Re: System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon

Same problem here with my desktop CoreI5 750 system (Nvidia closed drivers). Cinnamon 32bits (Clean install but got a separated /home) Effects are disabled, hot corner is enabled and window shadows are enabled. At first i had an immediate freeze whilst launching java applications. I solved it throug...

Tip : Make Conky work in Kde

First contributive post from me as i switched from gnome2 to Kde.

Symptom : conky is not transparent by default in Kde.

Solution : you'll have to include 2 lignes in your .conkyrc file
own_window_transparent yes
own_window_argb_visual yes

Et voilà !

Re: LXDE enable compiz or compositing

In my experience, openbox is inferior to metacity (of gnome 2.xx) when it comes to one point : playing games in fullscreen with wine.
Openbox in this case gives with artefacts and slowesness...
