Re: Linux Mint 20 success or issues

I had nothing but problems and wasted an entire day. First upgraded to LM 20, almost nothing would work, tried to restore my saved image, failed. Downloaded LM20 and burned onto a thumb drive, did a fresh install and again, processes and packages not working or loading, etc. Finally did a clean rei...

Re: 19.3 to 20 - complete failure, extremely angry

Ya have to realize many of us are just venting, we're not all looking for a "fix" as we've already got 20 to work or like me had to do a clean install of 19.3 to get it to work. I won't be looking to upgrade (clean install) LM 20 for a while, at least until they work out what appears to be MAJOR bu...

Backdoor accounts discovered in 29 FTTH devices from Chinese vendor C-Data

Thought this might be of interest to some people here as it potentially affects homes, businesses and servers. Hope this is the correct forum for it. Two security researchers said this week that they found severe vulnerabilities and what appears to be intentional backdoors in the firmware of 29 FTTH...

Re: Getting ready to upgrade Mint 18.3 to 19.0 .....last minute questions

So......I have read a bunch of websites, comments, etc... including Clem's instructions on the Linux Mint Blog. Have a few questions: 1. When I run the "mintupgrade" command, exactly WHAT version of Mint is it getting? Since version 20 is out now, does it go and grab the latest? I would assume I wo...

Re: Mint Installer not installing grub on selected hard drive.

Sorry that I wasn't clear it was late, I was tired. What I meant by Ubuntu was in the grub menu Mint twenty was labeled as Ubuntu in Grub instead of mint 20. Yes I realized that was confusing because in UEFI the drives are labeled ubuntu for launching grub. You're still not clear. This time I mean ...

Re: Upgrade mint 19.3 to 20 What a waist of time!

After battling with installation of mint 20 from 19.3 following the instructions in “How to upgrade to linux Mint 20” The display had defaulted to laptop, when the installation was to a Desktop PC. When I upgraded the drivers I finished up with a blank driver screen. With oversize fonts and display...

Re: PSA - 19.3 to 20 - Just Do A Fresh Install

I just got done wasting 5 hours trying to recover from the uncountable errors during and after upgrade from 19.3 to 20. Finally gave up and I'm now back on a clone of my 19.3 SSD. I know, it's a PITA recustomizing your system after months/years of doing so. It certain will be for me. (Starting fres...

Re: 19.3 to 20 - complete failure, extremely angry

So today I saw the update to install in my notification zone. Let's try that. What can go wrong, right ? Whoa, slow down - I'm *pretty sure* the upgrade from 19.3 to 20 does NOT appear as a notification. Are you sure you weren't doing a normal upgrade of some installed packages? Exactly what happen...

Re: 19.3 to 20 - complete failure, extremely angry

Not only did the upgrade fail miserably I used Timeshift to go back and it froze halfway through the restore. Okay, I installed a clean version of 20 and two thirds of the packages wouldn't work. I've reinstalled a clean version of 19.03 and it's working fine. Guess 20 isn't ready for prime time.......

This is what made me switch back too the other, small list there are more. ... Sorry that you've had such a bad experience with Linux. :( sounds like he ran the gamut of distros with some expectation they would all be similar, not realizing that many are deliberately different. It's not for everybo...

Re: Network printer connection problem on my desktop

Doing a little more playing around in printer settings (on the desktop), saw where I needed to allow it to be seen and finally got it to see the printer but now I have 'transport endpoint not connected'. Everything I find on Google is old and doesn't appear to work for Sonya.
