Re: Who switched from Ubuntu to Mint?
I never had Ubuntu with Unity installed for more than a week. I've used a number of distro's but grew very fond of Linux Mint, Bodhi and Sabayon before settling on Linux Mint 14 as my full time OS. I do not see myself using anything else.

Re: Change the default file manager
Very interested in this as well. Nautilus is decent but I would like the option to change the default.

Re: Mate or Cinnamon?
I've tried Cinnamon, Mate and XFCE and while I do like XFCE a lot and there are a few things I really like about Mate I have kept coming back to Cinnamon. Cannot wait for 1.5 to be released.

Re: Mint 13 (Maya) RC out
I installed Mint 13 Maya, added XFCE 4.10 and removed Cinnamon. So far its been 2 full days and its very stable and the performance is great. Nothing against Cinnamon or Mate but I feel XFCE offers more of what I am looking for.

I've had to do that a few times. Linux seems to make every task much easier.

Re: Mint 13 (Maya) RC out
I've noticed with Mint 13 that after a restart, or logging out and back in, all windows lose their GTK theme setting and they are left with a black border that contains no button to close or minimize. I then have to go into Cinnamon settings, change the GTK theme and then change it back. I didn't h...

Re: Mint-Xtra - updated icon theme for Mint
Thank you for this icon theme. The blurry volume icon had been bugging me for awhile and I finally got around to figuring out how to fix it. Then I found this. Amazing.

No Longer Getting Notifications
I have both Turpial and Empathy running and both are supposed to be using the default notifications from Linux Mint and Cinnamon 1.4. It had been working but in the last 2 days I no longer get popup notifications for either program. As far as I know I have not uninstalled anything that would have ef...

Re: What are your top tips for a Newbie?
My tip is to have patience and keep trying distro's until you find one that fits what you are looking for. I spent almost a month before I settled on two that I liked and finally on Linux Mint as a full time OS. Takes a lot of patience though. Stick with it and its worth it.

Re: What oses yall running?
I am now running Bodhi Linux 1.4 on my sons laptop. I plan on running a bunch of the kids programs and it gives me a lightweight OS that has fit all of my needs. This is what I love about Linux. There is always something out there for everybody.

Re: Linux Distro For My 5 Year Old
That was the first one that I tried and while I liked that it was geared for kids I just didn't like the feel I got from it. Not all that polished. I might try it out again though.

Linux Distro For My 5 Year Old
We bought our 5 year old one of those Toshiba kids laptops and it obviously runs Windows out of the box. I keep looking at that thing and wishing I could just install Linux and get him started in the Linux experience. Finally I talked the wife into it and the last 2 days I have been trying a few dif...

Re: What oses yall running?
I am running Linux Mint 12 with Cinnamon 1.4 on my laptop and Windows 7 on my desktop computer. The only reason I have Windows 7 running is the need to watch Netflix and protected Blu Rays. If that wasn't the case I would be running Linux on there as well. Shame because its a damn powerful machine.

Re: A Linux experience
We all have the right to disagree. Not sure how its bloated. The install CD is less than 400MB and hardly any software is installed. As for 32 bit vs 64 bit I noticed very little difference in performance between the two, if at all. It booted much faster and offered much more flexibility than any ot...
