Re: Start Menu "search" lists tmp files - why?

Thanks for that xenopeek! I missed the easy way - I solved my problem the hard way and waste a lot of time! Must be something to do with my "70 year old CPU"! All in all, very pleased with Linux, expecially Mint. :D

Start Menu "search" lists tmp files - why?

I am a long-time user of Mint. Having recently installed Mint 15 Cinnamon on a new PC (for an ex-M$ convert!) I had a few problems with adding shortcuts to the deaktop or panel. To save time I reverted back to Mint 14. I added Teamviewer8 so that I could support the user remotely but I have noticed ...

Re: UEFI secure booting and the future

It would appear form what has been written in the Internet, that Intel is climbing into bed with Microsoft, or at the very least, helping Microsoft in its aspirations to conquer the PC market and kill off the "free world"! I have been unable to ascertain whether or not, a PC owner will be ...

Re: Love Linux Yet Driver Issues becoming Grave.

You might wish to believe that all in the Windoze garden is rosey as far as drivers are concerned - don't you believe it! We get far more issues with hardware driver problems in Windoze 7 than ever we do with Mint/Ubuntu/Debian. Compared with M$, Linux has become a real breeze! As for Kodak printers...

Re: HP F2420 Deskjet All-in-One and hplip-3.9.12

HP F2420 all-in-one and Mint Helena (64bit). I am having considerable difficulties in getting a new HP F2420 printer scanner to work. I can get the printer to work(ish) using an old driver (F735). HP has a good looking site, but I have had no luck whatsoever in installing the latest "hplip-3.9....

Re: HP F2420 Deskjet all-in-one

Hi, I'm struggling to get my HP f2420 "all-in one2 running. Have tried all HP's suggestions from their web page, but must be missing something. :( When I go into terminal to load hplip-3.9.12, I end up with message below, even after trying to resolve the missing dependencies. HP seem to provide...

I wouldn't admit to it, even if it was my idea. My big regret was that I used obscured/frosted glass so not much use really!

Re: Acer Aspire one 531, Mint 7, Atheros 5007 SOLVED

Yes, I just about managed to work that out thanks. That worked a treat, thankyou. I have also just purchased an Acer Aspire One (160gb HD 1 gd RAM). Managed to get one of the 8.9" screen versions which seem more popular than the 10.1" version - Dabs had the best price this time. Unfortuna...

The Vista CD makes an excellent mat for your coffee mug - but just remember that in true Micro$oft tradition, it does have a large hole in the middle!

Re: CF Card not recognised.

This is what the log produced - it was exactly same before and after card insertion. Something strange has happened this afternoon - I tried using the usb cable from camera into PC and then the card was found straight away, as were the cards which I put into card-reader, but only for as long as the ...

CF Card not recognised.

I suspect that there might be a small bug in last Ubuntu kernel. I am running Mint6 on one caddy and Mint 7 on another. Mint 6 is, at present, my preferred option as Mint 7 does not see my USB multi card reader or SD cards. I am sure that the card problem will be resolved as soon as the kernel is tw...

Yep, it's a really great distro - I have been using Mint since it first appeared and although I try most "interesting" distros on a spare PC, Mint has never let me down and is used as my main OS. :D

The Committee Member at front right of deadguy's photo seems to have been feeding on Micro$oft, judging by her messy back-end! A bad dose of BWD perhaps? Ready to be culled - just like Vista!!!!! If you are able to afford the very high cost of the full version Vista, the CD makes an excellent coaster for your morning coffee - but don't forget that being Vista, it also comes with a big hole in the middle; this could allow contamination of your workspace or leave marks which can't be removed w...

PSTN line access problems through SIP router

Hi, This is NOT a Linux problem. I have a Thompson 716v5 WL voip router. Try as I might, I am not able to access the PSTN or receive PSTN or VOIP calls. I am able to make VOIP calls out. I have tried every combination of cables, plugs, ring adaptors and 7 different phones - without any luck. I have ...
