Re: [SOLVED]Mint 19 Network SAMBA shares not shownin File Manager

I agree.
I have not had any problems until LM 19. Linux is becoming more and more popular and should work OTB. The OS has been around for a long time now and we should be past having to edit smb.config like we used to 10 years ago.

Re: [SOLVED] "A Problem Has Been Detected With Your Thumbnail Cache"

You are correct - my "solution" does NOT solve the problem but the number of thumbnails is reduced. I do not know why.

I look forward to someone else's solution

Re: [SOLVED] "A Problem Has Been Detected With Your Thumbnail Cache"

One solution is to switch off Thumbnails preview. First delete any sub-directories under ~/.cache/thumbnails Then - Nemo > Edit > Preferences > Preview tab - then, in Previewable Files box, set Show thumbnails to "never". This stops thumbnails from formed and being saved to sub-directories under ~/....

Networking Problem

I have two computers, A and B, both running LinuxMint 18 and setup identically. I have used sudo shares-admin to setup the directories to be shared. The files /etc/samba/smb.conf are both setup correctly. From computer B I can import and export files to computer A From computer A I can import files ...

Is Samba dead?

Samba has not been working for several weeks now. Until a few weeks ago I could successfully network several computers and tablets using LinuxMint, Windows 10 and Android to share files and printers. Now no networking works. I am very reluctant to change my computers from LinuxMint to Windows 10 but...

Re: Latest updates broke Samba

Is there any further news on Samba? I still cannot network any of my four computers.

I am considering installing Windows 10 onto two of them since I desperately need a network. But I consider this a backward step.

Any ideas?

I still cannot get my network to work since the last update.

Does anyone have a solution please.

Is there any other method of networking than Samba?

TIA

Re: Latest updates broke Samba

I guess I will just wait for a bug fix to arrive - hopefully soon.

Until then it will have to be the old Sneaker Net!

Re: Latest updates broke Samba

I have two computers running LinuxMint 17.3. On both, if I try to open Samba (Menu > system > Samba) I get a window asking for my password - after that nothing. I tried uninstalling samba and system-config-samba and reinstalling but the problem remained. Yesterday I reinstalled LinuxMint 17.2 on one...

Re: Scroll workpplaces

Thanks for the reply - it is not really important as I am getting used to moving the pointer to the top left corner and selecting worksplaces and applications from there

Scroll workpplaces

I am using LinuxMint 16 with Cinnamon. It is possible to set the system to scroll through the workplaces using the mouse wheel as in Xfce (which I am more used to).

Re: LinuxMint 12 - C programs not found

Thanks for your reply. If I recompile my programs under LinuxMint 12 (64 bit) they work OK so you are correct in your diagnosis. Since I have dozens of programs and I don't want to recompile the lot and since many of the programs are critical to my day-to-day work I think I will give LinuxMint 12 a ...

Re: LinuxMint 12 - C programs not found

I have just switched to LinuxMint 12 KDE version 64bit. Installed it day before yesterday - setup the same as LinuxMint 12 Gnome version - also 64 bit. All programs and Shell scripts work OK. There is something missing in the Gnome version that stops my C compiled programs from being recognised and ...
