Problem with dedicated touchpad buttons (Lenovo W541)

Hello! I have a brand new Lenovo ThinkPad W541 with a fresh Mint 17.2 (Cinnamon) installation. All seems to work well, except the dedicated touchpad buttons. When pressing them, they are acting like cursor up and down buttons, just resulting in a little scroll. Nothing gets selected. I've looked aro...

Update-manager gives errors on new Linux Mint 13 install

Hello! I have a brand new Linux Mint 13 install, but update-manager has started to give me errors. It says: Failed to fetch copy:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/packages.medibuntu.org_dists_precise_non-free_binary-amd64_Packages Hash Sum mismatch Failed to fetch gzip:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/archive.ub...

Re: Touchpad suddenly stopped working, but only for one user

It's working again! I installed "dconf-tools" and then started "dconf-editor". Under org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.touchpad, there is a touchpad-enabled option, which was switched off for me. After enabling it at first I was able to click and scroll with the touchpad, but not move the mouse ...

Re: Touchpad suddenly stopped working, but only for one user

Hello Vincent, You probably messed some configuration on that one user that is causing the touchpad not to work. Why not just create a new user, copy over your personal files, and continue working from there? Thank you for your reply. I've been considering this step as a last option. However, it is ...

[SOLVED] Touchpad stopped working, but only for one user

Hello! I hope someone can help me... I run Mint 12 (with Cinnamon) on an Asus laptop (with ETPS/2 Elantech touchpad). Today, after months of working without issues and without any particular reason, the touchpad stopped working. However, when I log in as another user, it works just fine! In fact, wh...

Re: Change user in Cinnamon? [SOLVED]

I found the cause and solution. The new display manager included with LMDE 201204 (Final not RC), MDM, renamed gdmflexiserver to mdmflexiserver. Gnome-screensaver, when it brings up the password prompt to unlock, looks to see if gdmflexiserver exists, before it displays the Switch User button. To f...

Re: Cinnamon: Showing multiple time zones in calendar applet

No, it's not an upgrade, it's a rewrite, a brand new desktop which has some compatibility with an underlying Gnome 3. Cinnamon already works quite nicely, but it still has some catching up to do in some areas. And the functionality and variety of applets is just one of those areas. It will get there...

Re: Getting two alert dialogs of different style, for some r

No, I wasn't asked for the keyring. Those two dialogs - both for the same thing - are all that appears. The different style of those dialogs seems to indicate that they have been generated by two different sub-systems. Almost as if Gnome 3 somehow managed to break through the Cinnamon layer on that ...

Getting two alert dialogs of different style, for some reaso

Hello! I noticed that I seem to be getting two alert notifications for network related issues, both alerts for the same thing, but presented in a different style. Please see the attached screenshots. The first dialog is maybe more in a Gnome 3 style, and the latter more native for Cinnamon? Really n...

Cinnamon: Showing multiple time zones in calendar applet?

Hello! I work a lot with people in different time zones. So, under Ubuntu I appreciated the ability to add multiple time zones in the calendar app. It even included a small world map, which would highlight the various locations I had set, and then showed the times in those locations. Is something si...

Cinnamon: Showing Evolution calendar in calendar applet

Hello! I'm using the Evolution mail client and Cinnamon 1.4 on Linux Mint 12. In the past, I used to use plain Ubuntu 10.04. While I think Cinnamon is great, I am now missing the integration of the Evolution calendar events with the calendar applet. Under Ubuntu, I was able to see today's events - a...

Cinnamon: Logout and Quit take a looooong time

Hello! Whenever I click on the 'Logout' or 'Quit' icon in the Menu, I noticed it takes a very long time before something happens. Around 20 to 30 seconds, or so. It seems as if something is waiting around and finally timing out in the background. When I go to the terminal and type "shutdown now" or ...

Cinnamon: No way to switch users?

Hello! I can't seem to find a way to easily switch users in Cinnamon. The only way I have found so far is to lock the screen and then click on 'switch user' in the password prompt. However, that seems to be slightly convoluted. I would have thought that a 'switch user' button could be added to the M...

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with dconf. I saw that you can set configuration key values with it, but I wouldn't know which key to set to what value.

Re: How to safely downgrade from cinnamon 1.3.1 to 1.3.0?

Thank you both for your replies!

I went with the approach suggested by Tusque, and it is a great improvement. I also agree that hopefully the core issue will be fixed for 1.3.2, but in the meantime, this solution here helps greatly.

Thank you!

How to safely downgrade from cinnamon 1.3.1 to 1.3.0?

Hello! What is a safe way to downgrade from cinnamon 1.3.1 to 1.3.0? While 1.3.1 is nice, I can't stand that the center panel icons, such as the workspace switcher, keep jumping around when I switch workspaces (if different numbers of windows are open on them). The icons in the center panel should b...

Re: After Cinnamon 1.3.1 upgrade: Center panel icons jump ar

Fortunately, I don't seem to have issues with the screensaver. But I also don't have the date/time on the left. How did you get it there?

But, yes, the moving desktop switcher (along with all other icons in the center panel) is very distracting. Making the icons right aligned would help greatly.

After Cinnamon 1.3.1 upgrade: Center panel icons jump around

Hello! I just now upgraded to Cinnamon 1.3.1 and found that the items in the center panel now jump around when I switch workspaces, depending on how many windows are open in the workspace. Is there a way to right-align items in the center panel? I edited cinnamon.css and added a 'text-align:right;' ...

Re: Desktop search for Linux Mint 12 (beagle or tracker)?

Thank you for your response. But maybe I should have been more clear. I run the Cinnamon desktop, where (I think) I don't have access to the Gnome 3 search functionality. The search bar in the app menu certainly doesn't allow me to search documents or emails. Also, the information to which you linke...

Desktop search for Linux Mint 12 (beagle or tracker)?

Hello! I'm looking to run a desktop search solution, such as Beagle or Tracker on my new Linux Mint 12 install. However, there doesn't seem to be anything useful in the repositories. Beagle isn't there at all and tracker seems to perform only an incomplete install. What is the current state-of-the-a...
