Re: Dual monitor confusion in LM 21.2 Cinnamon after timed Power off

I am happy to report that the 6.5 kernel fixed my issue. I have been running it for a few weeks now and power management works great.

Re: Unable to automatically boot after LinuxMint 21.2 install

Just FYI, I went back to Linux Mint 20.3 and the system has no problem automatically booting on power up in BIOS mode. Changes in Mint 21 and later broke auto booting in this old system.

Re: Dual monitor confusion in LM 21.2 Cinnamon after timed Power off

Alas it was wishful thinking. The problem seems intermittent now where the "Power off screen" feature sometimes works and sometimes kills one monitor. At least the primary (left) screen connected via Displayport cable remains the primary screen after screen power saver mode when it does wo...

Re: Dual monitor confusion in LM 21.2 Cinnamon after timed Power off

Problem solved, sort of... I thought maybe the power management app was getting confused with 2 identical monitors both connected via HDMI. I bought a Displayport cable since both the MOBO and monitors have Displayport interfaces. I connected 1 monitor (the primary) with Displayport and left the oth...

Re: Dual monitor confusion in LM 21.2 Cinnamon after timed Power off

Yeah, that's what I am doing until I find a proper fix. Problem is screensaver does not really power the monitors down much, just dims them. Even without a floating clock or message these monitors are on and run hot. The best workaround I have so far it to hit the power button on each when I am goin...

Dual monitor confusion in LM 21.2 Cinnamon after timed Power off

I have a new desktop on which I installed LM21.2 Edge edition to get support for the latest onboard graphics chips. Everything seems to be working well except for the "Turn off screen when inactive" power management feature. The system has two identical HP LP2475w monitors connected via HD...

Re: Unable to automatically boot after LinuxMint 21.2 install

I realize now that installer will reset partition table. I guess I was thinking and hoping that installer wouldn't bother unless the drive was > 2TB. Lesson learned. It is definitely not a secure boot now with UEFI turned off. I also looked for a BIOS upgrade, but came up empty. Do you think setting...

Re: Unable to automatically boot after LinuxMint 21.2 install

I am beginning to think the problem is old firmware too and there is no work around other than manually boot on restarts, and suspend instead of shutdown as much as possible. I tried to create a new boot entry but neither my various attempts nor your suggestion work: wgking@BLUEGENE:~$ sudo efibootm...

Re: Unable to automatically boot after LinuxMint 21.2 install

Yes, fastboot options are all disabled in setup, and UEFI booting is now enabled (it wasn't on initial OS install). This is the first time I have had to deal with UEFI boot, but since it is the future I had better learn. The original BIOS boot didn't work anyway. I removed my bad boot entry. Setup o...

The install USB is included in these results since I have been swapping back to live USB boot as needed. Here are the results requested: anne@bluegene's password: anne@BLUEGENE:~$ sudo blkid [sudo] password for anne: /dev/sdb5: UUID="f6495d50-0a22-4e40-a2bd-3c82aad81b92" UUID_SUB="b0f...

Unable to automatically boot after LinuxMint 21.2 install

I had a 10 year old PC running Mint 19 just fine but it was out of support so I decided to install Mint 21.2. I did an erase and install on /dev/sda. The PC supports BIOS and UEFI but UEFI was disabled when I did the Mint install. When I rebooted after the install, boot fails with a message "&q...

Using the Linux Mint logo ?

I am a long time Linux Mint user and would like to proudly display that fact at times. The merchandise on the Linuxmint.com site is nice but the landed Canadian price after shipping and USD conversion makes it unattractive. It seems like the logo is freely available to be used and even modified acco...

Re: Screens never sleep, only screensaver lock

After more digging on this, it turns out the browser based Yahoo mail advanced client is the culprit. The basic browser client seems to be fine. Apparently the advanced client makes Chrome think it is uploading or downloading something all the time so powersaver options never get looked at. Interest...

Re: Cinnamon 3.0.7 screensaver occasionally doesn't work

I suspect the power saver does not kick in when Chrome (or maybe Chromium) is running. That what may system is doing. Have not found a good workaround, other than use Firefox.

Re: Screens never sleep, only screensaver lock

I have a similar problem with my desktop monitors. Power management is set to turn off screen after 5 minutes of inactivity. This setting works except for when the Chrome browser is running. Firefox will not cause the screens to stay on. There may be other programs as well as Chrome (probably Chromi...

Re: USB wifi device causes discover loop and kernel panic

I have an update on this issue. I plugged the device into my Raspberry Pi which runs Debian Wheezy (3.2 kernel) and it works like a charm :D . It looks like the problem was introduced sometime between kernel 3.3 and 3.13. The drivers for the device look the same as the ones that get loaded in kernel...

USB wifi device causes discover loop and kernel panic

When I plug a Bolse external wifi adapter with RT3072 chipset into my Rebecca desktop, Mint seems to go into a discover loop for a few minutes then causes a kernel panic. The device is supposed to be supported since about kernel 2.6 but I see lots of others with problems with this chipset in both Mi...

Re: Copy to USB devices slow and problematic

I am having the same issue. There is a long pause (~40-90 sec) at the end of each file copied.

I am running Isadora / Lucid Lynx 64 bit with current updates on a quad core 8GB system.

Copies eventually finish OK - its just annoying.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
