Re: Flacon not converting audio files
Hello. I've also used flacon for splitting cue+flac to separate files and updated to Mint 20 (xfce and Cinnamon) with the latest flacon (from their ppa, not flatpak) but it's working perfectly for me. A few quick thoughts Are the export settings correct? Where to save files is a writeable location e...

Re: modern cursors
The cursors I favor are breeze. Variants I've found are the standard gray, adapta, amber, blue, hacked, light aka snow, obsidian, purple, red and turquoise. Wish there was a Mint green variant! . The standard gray and white (aka Snow) versions are of course in the repos as the breeze-curso...

Re: FLAC to MP3 with ciano - doesn't work
Soundconverter, as Hosier Bob said, or KDE's soundKonverter, which is less simple and more configurable, are both good GUI apps for doing batch conversions.

Re: Thunderbird profile path
Should be a 'hidden' folder named .thunderbird in your user's home folder, so:
/home/[your user]/.thunderbird
/home/[your user]/.thunderbird

Re: From Tara to Cindy
Alternately one could rename one's old home folder in the old /home partition whilst in the live environment, say append 'backup' to the folder; when installing, select the existing /home parition, configure the installer to use it as /home as one would to create a seperate /home parition but do not...

@Flemur , you might add in your initial post that apulse is available in the repos for Mint 19 / ubuntu 18.x

Re: easytag crashes on LM19
If I may, in the event you haven't already gave it a go, another tagging app that's been around a long time is kid3. It is a KDE app, but they offer a version called kid3-qt which doesn't drag in all of the KDE stuff with it and may be a fine option depending on your needs.

Re: In version 18.3 Cinamon where is /etc/fstab?
I made a mistake I cannot fix: I did: sudo mv -v /etc/cron.weekly/fstrim /etc/cron.dail (daily without y) I suppose I need to copy the content of this file in a file named fstrim and put it back to /etc/cron.weekly. But the system says I do not have sufficient permission. If that was the whole comm...

Re: Ambiance Dark theme giving me troubles in MATE (Solved)
Would this theme (ambiance darkess) work under xfce ? (I realize this could be a silly question since Mate is base in GTK, but just in case ....) It does. The thing is not so much the desktop but which version of GTK 3 is being used vs which version(s) the theme was designed for. One way to see whi...

Re: What would you use if Mint wasn't available?
Not sure what I'd use but I'd try pretty much anything before I'd be used by er, use Windows or other corporate product from similar ilk. Likely in order, the top candidates would be: Xubuntu, SolydX, Debian w/xfce. Would certainly miss the friendly attitude, extra layers of ease and debugging Mint ...

Re: What do you advanced users do to achieve great quality sounds in Linux Mint 18.3?
For audio, I either use the above suggested Audacious (configured in settings to use ALSA Output, the relevant sound card's 'Direct hardware device without any conversions' and 'Direct control device' mixer, no software volume control, no replay gain etc) or the super-light terminal-based mocp (conf...

Re: Screen Tearing V18.3 XFCE
In Desktop Settings > Window Manager I'm using 'Xfwm4 + Compton' and not getting any tearing issues in Mint 18.3 xfce (AMD w/radeon drivers). Perhaps the issues are driver related. In my case, for an example, I had to tweak the radeon config in 18.2; I can't recall if it was carried over or not need...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro
If Mint and KDE are going to be so compatible that it will be fairly easy to install KDE on top of xfce then why doesn't Mint continue to offer a KDE-embedded distro/iso? It is my impression, perhaps mistaken, that there's nothing wrong with taking Mint xfce and replacing xfce with KDE from the rep...

Re: Oomox - GUI for generating themes (Cinnamon, GTK2, GTK3 and Metacity)
There was such a great variety of themes and relatively easy customization options back in the gtk2 days. A silly personal quirk as it may be, I like to have theme elements jive with whatever image/graphics are on the desktop. I do like mint's green theming  just not all the time. Of course...

Re: Oomox - GUI for generating themes (Cinnamon, GTK2, GTK3 and Metacity)
Hi Smurphos, thank you for the 'heads up' on this handy theme tool. :) If only we (using a recent xfce/Cinnamon/mate DE) could just pick any colors for any element via a color theme interface like KDE4 had and it'd be applied to whatever theme we were using. That made it so easy to customize themes ...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro
It'd be like dissing an entire distribution just because you don't like its default web browser. I agree. Several years ago I forever discarded opensuse - simply because I didn't (still don't) like their logo. But, that's kinda the point is it not? My quality of life has not diminished because I ch...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro
Speaking of old style tools, I just discovered "mc", another Midnight Commander clone.... all text based. It looks like a Win98 era tool. It may be. Still an excellent file manager. Could see it being one's top choice if one is better with remembering and using keyboard shortcuts and comm...

Re: Is There a Good Flac to MP3 Converter With a GUI?
Second phd21's suggestion of soundKonverter (re: the 'k' - it's a 'KDE' app but works fine on any system). It's more flexible with some more detailed options than (the correctly spelled) soundconverter and can also do mass replay gain tagging individually or 'by album' if you use that feature.

Re: System requirements for Xfce
Hi Jeff, that's really low spec for a modern os and too little memory for the oldest supported Mint, IMH. On my ancient PIII Dell, which has 768mb, I have an old, carefully outfitted debian install with jwm 'window manager' instead of any 'desktop environment', but even that is sluggish and firefox ...
