Open Hidden Files with XED [SOLVED]

Using Linux Mint 18 with MATE and the only way I can find to open a hidden file for editing is to use CAJA. I can not see any hidden files in the tree provided by XED. There doesn't even appear to be a preference option to make this available. Am I missing something? By the way I know that by their ...

Re: Laptop fails to suspend on lid close

Thanks for that link. But I think I will wait for the kernel to come up in the update manager. It is not too big of a problem that I can't wait. Just thought that I would ask in case someone has a timeline for the 4.6 kernel to be introduced to LM18

Re: Laptop fails to suspend on lid close

Update Manager only shows 4.4 Kernels. I understand that I need 4.6.

Laptop fails to suspend on lid close

I have upgraded my laptop to Linux Mint MATE 18 and can not get it to suspend when I close the lid. This problem is a known bug in kernel 4.4.0 and is described in full on the Ubuntu launchpad site. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1574125?comments=all When can we expect an upgra...

Re: Battery drops 40% when laptop powered off.

Well I have just checked and found that WOL is switched off on my laptop. So I guess it must be down to the NVIDEA driver.

EDIT --- I should have said Nouveau Drivers - It is an NVIDEA Card.
I am referring to using the PRIME option to switch from Intel to NVIDEA card

I will check WOL next - What I tried was switching from the NVIDEA driver to the INTEL driver and I only lost 7% over the night - much better.

Re: Battery drops 40% when laptop powered off.

My idea was just a thought. I have an Acer Aspire V3 and I do not see the problem, so from own experience I cannot give any advice. Another shot in the dark: If you disable Wifi before you shut down explicitly: Does this change anything? Ok wireless disable did not help - Just a thought but is your...

Re: Battery drops 40% when laptop powered off.

The battery itself doesn't seem to be the culprit. Coming back to the question in your starting post if powering down could mean a kind of sleep mode: No, this is not the case. That leaves at now the suspicion, that the displayed value is simply wrong. Did you encounter this problem already before ...

Re: Battery drops 40% when laptop powered off.

My initial experiment confirms: If I shut down Windows last using a hard shutdown script, the battery is 100% in the morning. Next experiment will be to shutdown the regular way from Windows. Meanwhile, a web search is yielding me very little useful information. At this moment, I am piggybacking on...

Re: Battery drops 40% when laptop powered off.

Try it again but this time remove the battery after shutting down and insert it again immediately before powering on on the next day. Same result? Ok Cosmo I can report that shutting down using Menu>Quit>Shut Down and then removing the battery gives me 100% the next morning when I reinsert the batt...

Re: Battery drops 40% when laptop powered off.

You are dual-booted with Windows? Likely it is Windows performing a soft shutdown (so that it can start faster than from hard shutdown). I have the same problem with my Toshiba. There is some talk in the internet about the Intel Management Engine driver v 11 not working correctly. I haven't done en...

Battery drops 40% when laptop powered off.

When I power my laptop off at night it has 100% power on the battery indicator. When I switch it on and boot up in the morning it has around 60% on the battery indicator. I have a HP Pavilion laptop using Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon. The kernel is 4.2.0-18. I power off using the Menu>Quit>Shut Down seq...

Lock Screen Image

I have changed my lock screen image for the second time. The first time the image was accepted and displayed on screen locking. But the second image, and the one I want to use from now on, will not display. All I get is a black background. I did the change in the same way creating a new /usr/share/b...
