Using bookworm-backports kernel

I currently have 6.5 kernel installed on LMDE6 using bookworm-backports.
I understand that this no longer receives security updates. Will it be upgraded to to 6.6 or do I have to get the LTS kernel some other way?

Pinned Icon On Panel Duplicated When Program Started

When I pin Clementine to the panel from the Linux Mint Menu and then click on the icon to start up Clementine I get a second icon on the panel. Here is a screenshot showing a pinned Clementine (the one that looks like an orange segment or crescent moon) Screenshot from 2023-12-14 17-25-01.png And he...

Re: Wi-Fi not being recognised by LMDE 6 on Live boot

Where do I go from here? You let it finish and if it does without any errors, then reboot to activate the new kernel. What is your concern? Errors stop the process because there is a problem. Warnings do not. I am not familiar with the WARNING: Unknown key type PC_SUPER_LEVEL2 warning message. The ...

Re: Wi-Fi not being recognised by LMDE 6 on Live boot

I'm not quite sure what "Among other things this fixes secureboot" means, but many have been unable to get wifi working with secure boot enabled. Also, if you plan to dual boot, you should disable fast startup in Windows: https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.com/p/internet.html#ID1.1 I h...

Re: Wi-Fi not being recognised by LMDE 6 on Live boot

I can tell you that secure boot is off because I needed to do it to get the LMDE 6 Live environment to boot of the USB. The LDME 6 ISO should not require secure boot to be disabled to boot. Not sure what you might have run into. If you want to stay with LMDE 6, it is possible to backport newer kern...

Re: Wi-Fi not being recognised by LMDE 6 on Live boot

I think you need a higher kernel than LMDE 6 offers. Try a live session of Mint Edge & see if wifi works there: https://linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=310 Also, the command that didn't work is r f kill list, not rkill list. The Edge works thank you. I am wondering if I should wait now, before pro...

[SOLVED] Wi-Fi not being recognised by LMDE 6 on Live boot

Just received my new Lenovo Thinkpad with AMD CPU. Downloaded LMDE 6 and booted into the Live system prior to install and the Wi-Fi is not being recognised. I inserted a USB Wi-Fi device that I had sitting around and tried again. This time was successful. So this looks like a driver issue. Should I ...

t42 wrote: Thu Jun 01, 2023 4:53 am Config is normal, maybe look at /var/log/auth.log - you may spot something there. I had such issue as yours with mouse dependant login on LM 19x, but it remained unresolved, the system was retired.
This does seem to be a common problem. I have found similar posts on the forum.

Re: Not able to select second username on logon until first user name is selected

I am unable to select the second user using the mouse You can select a 2nd user in the list with the cursor down key, it's more convenient than mouse. Anyway usually last logged in user is selected. To be sure you are using sleek-greeter, look in lightdm --show-config But can you select a user with...

Re: Not able to select second username on logon until first user name is selected

I got a way to get round this without changing the usernames. It does mean that I have to type in my username and then password as no usernames are displayed, but OTH it also makes the laptop more secure as the person trying to logon has to know what the username is as well as the password. All you ...

Re: Not able to select second username on logon until first user name is selected

What if you modify the other user's name to place it after yours alphabetically in the list? (Or modify your name to place it before theirs.) That might be annoying for the other user, but it might solve your problem! :) Perhaps this is more of a work-around than a solution. I agree it is just a wo...

Re: Not able to select second username on logon until first user name is selected

When you install LM you create an administrator account, then you continue with the installation. You can add a user account for someone else and give them the required access. I'm at a loss as to why you would need to log in twice with different login names and passwords for. You may need to expla...

Not able to select second username on logon until first user name is selected

I have two users on my Mint installation (LM 21.1) and I am unable to select the second user using the mouse until I select the first user then I can select and enter the password for the second user.

Is this a bug, or a feature? Can I get a fix?

Cinnamon Network Manager Applet and Conky

I use the Cinnamon Network Manager Applet and also conky to monitor the strength of my WiFi connection. The conky value uses wireless_link_qual_perc This shows a much higher value than the percentage reported by the Cinnamon applet. So where does the applet get the measurement from? and Which of the...
