Re: WeatherApplet stopped working Mint 20.3
The Weather Applet has stopped updating. I have the successful fix from late 2023, however it has not refreshed or updated for the last 48 hours. Anyone else experiencing this bug again? Same problem here with Linux Mate 21.3. In the Clock applet the weather info just stopped appearing. As far as I...

Ayatana settings app - most options inactive
I'm trying to use the Ayatana indicators in MATE on LM 21.3. I installed several ayatana-indicator packages which work, but the Indicators app in the Control Centre is unable to configure anything beyond the Session tab. I cannot change to a different tab. All tabs are greyed-out and unresponsive. I...

Re: 20.3 to 21 Upgrade - grub-efi-amd64-signed shim-signed problems
The issue has since disappeared, I don't know at what point. I just pressed ahead with the other package updates using "apt update" and "apt upgrade". Perhaps one of those updates solved the dependency issues. Perhaps it's unrelated. I also fixed a problem of two packages always ...

Re: 20.3 to 21 Upgrade - grub-efi-amd64-signed shim-signed problems
I looked up the dependencies of grub-efi-amd64-signed and shim-signed in Synaptic. I couldn't any dependency that wasn't satisfied.

20.3 to 21 Upgrade - grub-efi-amd64-signed shim-signed problems [resolved]
Upgrade GUI fails with "An issue was detected during the upgrade". Not at all helpful. The command-line spew contained this error-related info: dpkg: error processing package shim-signed (--configure): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured Errors were encountered while processing: gru...

Re: Where is the new Mint 21 Process Monitor?
Is it listed in the Start-up apps as enabled? (I do not have an LM21 install to check.) I don't see anything that looks like it in the Startup Applications list. Evidently, it is not enabled as my scheduled Timeshift backup is now underway with no new icon in the panel. I need more information: exe...

Re: Where is the new Mint 21 Process Monitor?
I know of one definite incident that should have triggered that process monitor. The first timeshift auto backup started unexpectedly, slowing the system to a crawl. I discovered what was going on using top. I saw no monitor thing like the illustration in the What's New doc. Looking at that illustra...

Where is the new Mint 21 Process Monitor?
"A little process monitor was added to Linux Mint to detect automated updates and automated system snapshots running in the background." So says the Linux Mint 21 New Features doc. But I've been running the beta for nearly two weeks and have never seen this process monitor. Do I have to e...

Re: cd/dvd tray opens and closes during boot after kernel update
I have exactly the same behaviour after updating to kernel 5.11.0-34 from 5.11.0-27. CD/DVD tray does not open when cold-booting from the previous kernel, confirming that this must be kernel-related. This is not a show-stopper for me, but it is a little annoying. HP Compaq Elite 8300 SFF mobo model ...

Yes. I was relieved to find that I can still use use Gnote. But I had to reinstall it. The upgrade to 20.2 removes Gnote. Why?

Re: Linux Mint 20.2 “Uma” MATE released!
It's good to see a new release of Linux Mint, but why arbitrarily uninstall Gnote during upgrade to 20.2? As long as an application still works, leave people in peace to keep using it. Sticky Notes is in no way a replacement for Gnote. Sticky Notes is fine to display a small number of Post-It Note-l...

Sticky Notes as replacement for GNote - How?
The 20.2 beta Release Notes tell me that Sticky Notes will replace GNote. Please say it ain't so. I find Sticky Notes hard to use. Can someone explain any of this: All notes reside permanently on the screen. Closing a note deletes it! WHAT!? I don't want all my notes up one the screen all the time! ...

Re: Digikam flatpak can't access my files
The AppImage version seems functional. Thanks.
This isn't the first time that Software Manager carried something that's broken.
AppImage is new to me. I had to look up how to use it.

Digikam flatpak can't access my files
I installed digikam 7.1.0 flatpak from the Software Manager. (I have Linux Mint 20.04 MATE). When I tried to specify the collection location, the dialog showed only my home folder, but nothing within it. So, I tried creating a new collection: "digikam could not create the folder to host your da...

mhwaveedit sometimes records at wrong speed
mhwaveedit has a simple Record function under the Play menu. The only format option is "Mono 16 bit 48000 Hz". Sometimes, the resulting recording plays back (on mhwaveedit and other audio applications ) at what sounds like double speed. Often this happens after making several consecutive r...

Run both Update Manager and Software Updater?
I'm completely comfortable with Mint's Update Manager, but now in LM 19.2 MATE I sometimes discover that Software Manager is also running, minimized. Is this supposed to happen? Software Manager lists a different set of updates than Update Manager. It's confusing and unsettling to have these two upd...

Can't make sense of backintime
I installed v1.1.12.2 of backintime on Linux 19.1 MATE. Everytime I start backtime, whether regular or root version, I'm told "Back in Time is not configured. Would you like to restore a previous configuration?" I respond NO and the Settings dialog opens. I understand the settings, but cli...

Calibre Get Books opens web browser, what to do next?
The Calibre "Get Books" function finds the Kindle book I want. But all it will do is open Firefox to the Amazon page where I can buy the book. The Amazon page confirms that I already own this book. I can switch back to Calibre, but I see no way to get Calibre to download the book. I can fi...
