Another Scanner Story, Canon N670U (Plustex)
Mint 17.1 64 bit KDE, smoothest install yet of any distro except the scanner. I've got two Canon N670U scanners (rebranded Plustek) that ran fine under Mint 13 32 bit. Doing a lsusb tom-77@tom-77-Z87H3-A4:~ > lsusb Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:8000 Intel Corp. Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux F...

Re: Set Static IP, KDE Mint 17
I gave up on KDE Qiana 64 bit. Close as I got was turning off network-manager and using the cli hot-plug command to activate eth0. I could ping the world but no internal apps would work. I read where many sys. admin and server guys hate any type of automated network management and the first thing th...

Set Static IP, KDE Mint 17
Working on KDE Mint-17, 64 bit, Intel DP55KG board. Trying to do a clean install from 32 bit Maya 13 to 64 bit Qiana. Network is static IP (15 other devices need static Ips) Everything worked fine under Maya. Did the Qiana install using LAN DCHP connectivity. Everything worked fine. Ran into trouble...

Re: Intel DQ77MK board with i3-3240 - Maya won't load
Problem solved. Loaded the latest version of Lubuntu (ver. 13.10) and everything worked 100% first time. This board has a displayport (DP) which I hadn't worked with before. Used a single, cheap, DP to HDMI cable and the board drives a big screen Panasonic with no trouble. I can also report that the...

Intel DQ77MK board with i3-3240 - Maya won't load
I'm surprised this combo doesn't work but Maya blows up about 1/2 way through initial screen load. Latest version of Mate does complete through first screen but I really need a KDE-LTS version if at all possible. Any words of wisdom or good experiences much appreciated. Can't really find much of any...

LPR & Cups vs. Gutenprint
Mint KDE Ver. 13 32-bit. Bought a late model Brother inkjet. Installed the usual LPR & CUPS drivers and the printer came up worked fine with most apps. Gimp Gutenprint seems to be a different animal. At this point I'm trying to understand the philosophy behind Gutenprint and why it does not (can...

Re: What Happened To Kate?
I found out you do not want to set the line length to something like 64000. That's what I did and the program became very squirrly and unstable.
Thanks for the reply. It's working fairly reliably at the moment.

What Happened To Kate?
I'm sure this is not a Mint issue but someone screwed up Kate big time. I use (use to use) Kate on a daily basis. Now it's a total mess to use. http://olezfdtd.wordpress.com/2012/04/05/open-files-with-long-lines-in-kwrite-kate-and-kile/ I hope this gets fixed soon. I ended up going over to - http://...

Libreoffice Icon Tool Tips Solid Black
Mint Ver. 12 KDE. Here's another tid-bit that might save someone some time. Upon installation of my 32 bit KDE version, the Libreoffice icon tool-tips were solid black. I found there is apparently a bug that causes this but there is also an easy work around. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source...

Re: Warning Vampire Zombie Synaptic Package Mgr.
Finally discovered the "tab key" trick. I might also add the coding for reinstalling programs which is a little unusual sudo aptitude reinstall packagename or sudo apt-get install --reinstall packagename I used the latter quite a bit putting things back together. At this point I'm going to...

Warning Vampire Zombie Synaptic Package Mgr.
Mint ver. 12 KDE. It all started when I innocently tried to down load the latest msttcorefonts via synaptic. It never completed. I ended up looking at an EULA screen that I could not kill. Even xkill (skull and crossbones) won't kill this sucker. It just keeps coming back for more. Tried to do a sud...

Re: Applications Won't Connect To Internet
Sorry, I wanted to get on with evaluating Mint KDE. I carefully put everything back as original and did a reboot but then could not get anything from a ping except "Network Not Reachable" so something else got hosed or over written in the process of changing things. A simple reload plus a ...

Re: Update Manager Hangs
FWIW, I'm having a similar problem with Synaptic. I wonder if Update Manger, Synaptic and APT are all involved. In my case I was trying to do a simple download of some Windows fonts and Synaptic froze at an EULA screen as shown here - http://wsrl.org/x-img/synap-1.png It's very repeateble here. I su...

Re: Applications Won't Connect To Internet
Nope! I now get a "Network Unreachable" message when I try to ping anything. I assume the default gateway portion "route add default gw xx.xx.xx.x eth0" would look like this - route add default gw 192.168.0.1 eth0 Which, I believe, would be the address of the LAN router in most s...

Applications Won't Connect To Internet
Hi everyone I'm an ex-Kubuntu user trying to get over to Mint KDE. I'm having trouble with apps connecting to the Internet. Environment is standard wired Ethernet, 100 Mbit, static LAN. no wireless. Machine is an older Intel P4 CPU installed in an Intel board. Mint 32 bit ver. 12 KDE installed just ...
