Re: NTP is suddenly making my boot from SSD take over 3 minutes!

The easy solution is to disable NTP and set time manually: sudo systemctl disable ntp.service It may be worth posting contents of cat /etc/ntp.conf It may be a ntp mirror that is slow to reach and you may need to change to a different NTP mirror Running ntpq -p will give you status of time servers h...

Re: Grub menu showing Ubuntu as an option !

That tutorial is from 2014 and from what I can see grub-customizer is even older.. has not been updated since 2012. I would stop using it AND stop recommending people install it. It has many bugs. Is it even being maintained? If it works for you great. It did for me once. But I think it also has no...

Re: LM18 and gputils

Well I'm also using Piklab 0.16-2 (but not on Linux Mint 18) on Mint 17.3 KDE. Gputils is version 0.13-7.1 on Mint 17.3 so maybe the newer version of gputils is the problem. I dont think there is any other way I can help you, although lately I've switch from PIC to Atmel and using Arduino and Raspbe...

Re: Can't get past login screen or access terminal

As this is your first post you must always quote the Version of Mint you are using and which Desktop environment you use, Mate, Cinnamon, KDE etc. There are major differences in the way Mint 17.3 and Mint 18 boot, so your question without this information is unanswerable. In Mint 17 alternate consol...

Re: Grub menu showing Ubuntu as an option !

At a guess, your system probably has more than one kernel in its repsoitories. Follow the link and install grub-customiser, then either post a screen shot of your menu entries or just highlight the entry and delete to remove it. http://linuxg.net/how-to-install-grub-customizer-4-0-6-on-ubuntu-linux-...

Re: moving icons into folders on Mint 18 KDE Desktop

Can you post a screen shot of what you are seeing on Imgmur http://imgur.com/ Once uploaded to imgmur copy and paste the link reference. On Linux Mint 17.3 (Kde 4.14.2) when you move any folder or program it copies the icon automatically. This may be another bug in KDE Plasma ( not sure but Im not u...

Re: HTML Editor

You can try Bluefish which is desktop independent. It has automatic syntax highlighting for C, Ruby, Python
and about 20 other languages.

Others like gedit based on Gnome will pull in massive amounts of repositories unless you use Gnome,
and kate and Kwrite are editors for KDE.

Re: Boot Problem in Linux Mint 18

Seems as though a few people are having the same issue. Dont try to fix what isnt broken, if
this cant be resolved you can always reinstall Mint 17.3 which is supported until April 2019.

Open a terminal and post the output of:

Code: Select all

systemd-analyze blame

Code: Select all

systemd-analyze critical-chain

Re: Linux Mint 18 Mate 64-Bit on 250Gb IDE partition scheme

Never use any weak file systems like FAT32 or NTFS. Not only do they defrag but the mechanical wear and tear on your hard drive is exaggerated and will fail early. I have an old computer (still working but dont use it oftem with a hard drive that is 13 years old and still working perfectly with ext3...

Re: Black Screen After Login

Have you tried changing wallpaper and adding icons to the panel again? Do these settings remain when you reboot? As all was well before you installed Phoronix, have you tried uninstalling Phoronix and see if your system is restored. The other problem is that the repositories from 17.1 have possibly ...

Re: Grub Not Displayed on Panasonic HDMI TV

Youre on the right track. Your Panasonic TV does not support your default grub resolution or refresh rate, or the TV is overscanning and the grub lines are out of viewable region. Twoi things to try, easiest first: When booting grub loads the first operating in 10 seconds, so have the TV remote in y...

You'll also find that different widgits on different are not possible on KDE Plasma 5, most of the icon sets designed for KDE 4.x wont work and a lot more. End of Life support for Mint 17.3 Rosa is April 2019, by then there may be another distro that uses a Kde 4.x desktop, Debian 8 also use kde 4.x...

Re: Enter does nothing in unlock screen and kdm

The Mint version of Xorg is 1.17.1
you can try:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Last command will update all packages and dependencies, but not upgrade to Mint 18.
It may be worth a try, not sure if it will solve your problem though

Re: Enter does nothing in unlock screen and kdm

Can you be more specific: This started to happen suddenly. I think (but I'm not 100% sure) it started to happen recently, after I upgraded Xorg packages to the latest versino available in Ubuntu repositories. Do you mean you changed from Mint repo's to Ubuntu repo's to upgrade Xorg or just the norma...

Re: Linux Mint 18 KDE to use what version of KDE?

As I multi boot both Mint and Arch, I use both KDE Plasma (on Arch) and KDE 4.14 on Mint 17.3 For me, I hate Plasma and here is why: Icons set designed for KDE 4 do not work on Plasma KDE 4 allows different background wallpapers for each desktop, KDE Plasma has the SAME wallpaper. In KDE4 you can as...

You haven't said what method you are using so I have to assume you are right clicking in KDE and use the extract context menu, if youre doing something different then you need to be succinct. I just created a password protected zip file from konsole on KDE and using a right click KDE extracted the a...
