Re: Ideas for Cinnamon applets / extensions

+1 for a Messaging Menu w/Notifications

I'm currently using CheckGmail which works fine but is a little dated and the theming doesn't exactly match-up with the rest of the very slick looking lovely Cinammon interface.

Re: AMD Dual Graphics (A-series APU)

I would say even if you could get it working, the performance boost would be very minimal and not very noticeable.

Managed to find an article you might find interesting though:

Re: reinstall question

Synaptic Package Manager is available (should be installed by default) and there are other options in the repositories too.

Re: reinstall question

You could always backup your home folder and then reinstall if you've made changes you'd rather not lose?

Re: CTRL-F2 works instead of ALT-F2

System settings > Keyboard

Click the 'shortcuts' tab, at the side click 'system' and the option 'show the run command prompt' should be there to define as you wish.

DE: 'Desktop Environment' like Gnome or KDE, the Graphical User Interface. 'Mate' is a fork of GNOME 2 created for those who have criticized the changes made in GNOME 3 and want something similar to the GNOME they've come to know and love. Maybe the options you're looking for are under the 'Grid' menu, which can be found in compiz-config under the 'Window Management' section.

Re: vurus

Who provides your e-mail service? Have you tried changing the password and security question on your account? It's not necessarily an infection, but some nasties may have gained access to your account, especially if it's something like Windows Live/Hotmail.

Ubuntu with unity on an ASUS Transformer prime. Strangely doesn't look too out of place.

Re: vurus

It is highly unlikely you have a virus. What makes you think so? Are you experiencing issues?

There are many influencing factors that makes a Linux system far less succeptable to an infection than other mainstream operating systems.

Re: Compiz Snap while Resizing WIndows

Perhaps it's a compiz fusion plugin you're missing? Try installing compiz fusion via the repos/software manager if it isn't installed and see if it appears.

Re: slow internet

Make sure you're in the correct directory in the terminal, for example if your downloaded tar in in your downloads folder, you can move to there via the terminal using 'cd':

Code: Select all

cd /Home/Downloads/
Then the command should find the file.

Re: window snapping keyboard shortcuts for mint 12

Do you have compiz and compiz-config installed? Both are available in the repos and it should be the same procedure as in ubuntu.
