Re: Cinnamon "grid" icons

Just have a feeling that there may be others that may not want this feature request. There are those of us who don't like desktop icons at all so don't care either way  Nevertheless, it's a worthy option to support. Option being the operative word. Yeah, Ubuntu has proven many times that f...

Re: Cinnamon "grid" icons

Just chiming in as a new user. Linux Mint 14 Cinnamon is my first experience with Linux and for me it's really these small things like having properly aligning desktop icons, as well as many many other small details that are really turning me off from Linux. I just don't have time for this BS, and ...

Re: Cinnamon "grid" icons

OPTIONAL?!?! But... But... Options are soooo last decade. They went out the window with Gnome 2, Windows 8 and Unity. The way forward these days is to have an idea, or better still a 'vision' and force people to put up with it whether they like it or not. You don't really want to give users...

Re: Cinnamon "grid" icons

Are dissenting opinions allowed? I also suffer from icon OCD but I want them to stay exactly where I put them and find it very annoying that some systems move them based on some grid pattern. Just have a feeling that there may be others that may not want this feature request. Pat Interesting... tha...

Re: Cinnamon "grid" icons

An issue for this was created 2 months ago: https://github.com/linuxmint/nemo/issues/108 . But it hasn't been fixed yet, so we'll have to wait... This is an essential feature, and I don't think it's hard to add this. Seriously, it has been around for so many years... :( Yeah, good to see that it ma...

Re: Cinnamon "grid" icons

Yeah, can I vote for this too? It's really minor in the grand scheme of things but annoys the hell out of me... If desktop icons would snap-to-grid vertically as well as horizontally, I'd be much happier. For some reason. Maybe I have OCD or something, but a neat desktop is less distracting and all...

Re: Cinnamon "grid" icons

I don't care if you are 'necroing' it, it's a feature that needs to exist (yes, 'needs' :-\). I have a few people I can think of off the top of my head who I convinced to use Linux and this was a MAJOR complaint from ALL of them. **NOBODY** likes the BS alignment and yet it has been a problem FOREVE...

Re: How about a Linux Mint server edition?

The SuSe installer advanced option is the closest thing that I am trying to describe. You go through long lists of packages and install what you want. For a server, you leave out most client programs, browsers, offices, graphics, multimedia codec, and pick the server options that you need. However,...

Re: How about a Linux Mint server edition?

Yes, the Ubuntu Server edition is quite useful, we have it in some of our file servers. However, much like Debian, its installation is not very consistent, you have to either install too much or too little, then backtrack by uninstalling and adding afterwards. Any stripped down to plain command lin...

Re: How To Center Windows

Gotcha. They should make like an 'official wishlist' or something so people have an idea what's in the pipe.

How To Center Windows

Where is the option to have windows open centered? In Ubuntu it was simple with Compiz but does Cinnamon use Compiz? I mean if so I should just be able to install ccsm, right? If not, where can I find this option? Or has it not been implemented?

Thx!

Re: How about a Linux Mint server edition?

I may be missing something here, but I was just wondering: Mint is based on Ubuntu distributions. Mint, at its core, is really Ubuntu. Cinnamon and other Mint goodies are obviously not, but the core is Ubuntu. So that being said, if you want to use Mint as a server, why not just use Ubuntu Server ed...

Re: Cinnamon "grid" icons

One and only bump for this :\. Anybody else at all interested in seeing this happen? I'm not sure if Cinnamon devs actively check this, but I think it would be a great help not only to Mint but to the Linux experience in general. I can't count how many times people's complaints with Linux (or A comp...

Re: Cinnamon "grid" icons

Thanks, the mockup helped a lot. By symmetrical I actually meant there being 4 icon on the right sided of the desktop but none on the left. However, I have experienced this grid problem before in Gnome 2, and I found it very irritating. I support this idea. Yeah, it's quite the pain in the ass. Eve...

Re: Cinnamon "grid" icons

Just for clarification purposes, you are talking about desktop icons aligning to a grid so that they don't overlap? Meaning that in Cinnamon, you can drag desktop icons on top of each other, whereas in KDE they align to a grid? I'm sorry if the answers to these questions seem obvious, but I seem to...

Re: Cinnamon "grid" icons

As this is a suggestion, moving it here. The desktop is managed by your file manager, so this would be a suggestion for Nemo (Cinnamon's file manager from version 1.6 onwards). Not sure it was really a suggestion (maybe it was, not quite sure what its intent was). I was more-so kind of curious as t...

Cinnamon "grid" icons

I've been dying for this feature for like the last 4 years, but apparently nobody on the gnome 2.X projct gives a shit about the rather small grouping of people, myself included, who wanted it. I was wondering if it was *possible* for Cinnamon since the Mint project seems to listen a lot more to end...

Re: Mic recording is too fast (bad sampling?)

Maybe this? https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/843431 What version of Mint are you using? What kernel version? It could very well be the same issue, I'm not sure. BTW: This is Mint 12 on 3.0.0-12-generic. I fixed the issue by removing pulseaudio. Not entirely sure why people feel ...

Mic recording is too fast (bad sampling?)

Pretty much as the title says, in Skype test call or Audacity recording the audio is WAY too fast. In an Audacity recording the clip has a shorter duration than I recorded for...so I'm thinking something is wrong with the sampling rate. I've tried modifying /etc/pulse/daemon.conf to give it a sampli...
