Linux firmware was just updated on my system. Took forever. Checking /boot I have numerous config files as well as initrd.img files. Do I need all of these?
What controls the creation of all these files? How to modify for a basic system?
Thanks

protonvpn-cli no wifi [Solved]
The new version of protonvpn (3.12.0-1)was installed with package manager. Finally tried it, and had problems. Anyway, after thinking I disconnected, I didn't have wifi. I tried [rfkill unblock all] but that didn't work. Finally went back to proton site and read some more and found:[ protonvpn -cli ...

Anybody got this timer to make a sound? It says it needs Sox, well I have a number of Sox packages installed and can play sound
on other things but not this timer.
Any Clues?
Thanx,

Re: blueman not working
I'm using Mint 18.3 with cinnamon desktop. The blueman applet starts at boot but can't find adapters. Maybe that's why the GUI doesn't open up. The adapter is recognized when I put it into a Win 10 laptop and I paired with my phone but couldn't download files from the phone to the laptop which is wh...

blueman not working
I installed blueman but when I try to start it, nothing happens. Bluez and bluez-tools are installed. If I use blueman-applet, the applet is displayed but can't find adapter or other devices. Any suggestions? Thanks, Bob lsusb | grep Bluetooth Bus 003 Device 005: ID 0a12:0001 Cambridge Silicon Radio...

broadcom wifi driver mint 18.3 [solved]
After installing 18.3 I couldn't install bcmwl from the iso. It worked for Mint 19. Just insert install dvd and the drivers can be installed. What to do now? No ethernet. Why can't the drivers be installed from the dvd for mint 18.3? The drivers could be installed for the live version (18.3) and wor...

Re: multi boot mint 19
Well, I guess "mount point" means which partition you want to install. I specified "/" on sda2 and elected to format that partition even tho it was already ext4. It worked! I wish the documentation was more complete. What's there is pretty lame. I seem to recall I had similar pro...

[SOLVED] mint 19 startup screen
When I first started Mint 19 after installation , there was a screen of options like backup, drivers etc. There was also a check box: don't show at startup. Unfortunately, I unchecked it, then restarted at the driver manager prompt. How do I get that screen of tools back? I want to work through the r...

I have a dual boot systems: Mint 16 & Mint 17. I want to install Mint 19 over Mint 16 and leave Mint 17 untouched. The installer doesn't seem to ask where to install. I selected "something else" as the option but next screen doesn't let you pick install point. What do I need to do to i...

Re: update kills wifi [SOLVED]
Well, the boot menu added a new entry: "previous versions"
selecting this allowed me to boot the old kernel and wifi works as usual.
Not much of a solution but it gets me back to a functioning system.
Wonder if this will ever get fixed?
good luck,
Bob

Re: change loaded kernel how to ?[SOLVED}
I got it to work. But, hitting shift or esc during grub menu didn't do anything, no advanced menu. But
I noticed that a previous versions entry showed up in the menu. I didn't notice that before. Selecting that
gave me the option to go back to the old kernel.
Thanks,
Bob

change loaded kernel how to ?
So, I went through a seemingly normal software update but now wifi doesn't work. One of the programs changed was the kernel. I read elsewhere that update manager can be used to change this back but it doesn't seem possible on my Mint 17 system. When I look at kernels from update manager -> view ->ke...
