Re: USB files show different mod dates from Windows to Linux

There is no fix required. You did a one time fix to the hardware clock to make it function similarly with bios/rtc set to local time (like windows usually does). Trust me....the BIOS isn't keeping track of leap years either. This generally only matters during the first few minutes of a bootup before...

Re: Apps don't see external hard drive.

I bet it can....It just doesn't use the same little shortcut/places as listed in Caja and such. If you usually have an external drive that automatically pops up named something like "RAWR" under 'devices' on the left panel....then try browsing from VLC's open file dialog to: Click Computer (left pan...

Re: Poor quality VirtualBox graphical interface - Cinnamon

The one screenshot you shared from Virtualbox Preferences has: Max Guest Screen Size : Hint Then 640x480... Looks like it is working exactly as intended. Virtualbox is telling the VMs that they should try using 640x480. Click that top box (in virtualbox) that says 'Hint' and change it to Automatic. ...

Re: 8 gigs of ram installed but 3.7 is only used

I would be more concerned about the super odd RAM issues from your last data dump before the usage becomes a concern. No manufacturer or serial numbers, and 1 stick running at 1600MHz and the other running at 667Mhz. What do you get when you: sudo dmidecode --type 17 One ~should~ get manufacturer, p...

Re: zip file to send video

@writercjw03 In the off chance you wind up back on the forum and see this please keep this in mind: 1) You are on an old Mint version but that is 9000% irrelevant to the original problem at hand. Upgrading your desktop O/S will not fix any issues that you are currently experiencing with video filesi...

Re: Suggestions for Anti-Virus Software

I used to use ClamAV on my linux boxen too; including Mint. I caught lots of things. All of them windows executables and viruses. Never once did it ever find an actual thing that could touch a linux system. I generally used it to clean backup data pulled from a friend's machine. Viruses and such nee...

Re: Wine and PRO 100

I don't think wine will ever auto-mount a flash drive. Not that it will necessarily fix a hardware key; but it might at least be worth trying to do this: I'm guessing that blkid will be somewhat more useful than lsusb; blkid will give you a useful path like /dev/sda1 to use. - winecfg - Click on Dri...

Re: Welcome Ladies - post here :)

most of my Windows Programs except for PrintMaster 18, which runs fine on Windows 7, but not much with Wine (because of the needed .net framework 1.1 so will be dual-booting with Windows 7 on one hard drive, then getting another for Linux. Some things i plan to use Crossover or Play on Linux for my...

Re: Installation on a MDADM RAID Array

I saw that too...a good year ago. Actually one of the main reasons I use linux at all is because M$ hasn't figured out how to let the rest of the world do a simple drive mirror yet. I don't trust cheap controllers, and I don't want to afford the good ones for a regular workstation. I've had a fair n...

Re: Installation on a MDADM RAID Array

Yeah...I'm not going to hand jam it. While I am perfectly capable of restoring from a backup and rebuilding, I choose to continue waiting for mdadm to be added to the live image. I can boot to the live disc, install mdadm, mount both md0 and md1, see what is in there...but I don't want to leave frag...

Re: Installation on a MDADM RAID Array

I wish you luck my friend. I wish I knew more. This is the 3rd time I've downloaded a new lmde install image, burned it, and booted...desperately trying to get mdadm to work correctly. All I can really say is that I now have more respect for the guys that make the installer files for the other distr...
