Re: How to customize input from USB Foot Switch?

Awesome! Incidentally, I was just discussing with someone a full graphical program they made for this and other foot pedals.
Discussion is over at LinuxMusicians.com:

You should collaborate maybe!

Mint Update vs Ubuntu or other system's updating

I'm sure this has been discussed, but I haven't found something that gets to the specific issue I'm wondering about. I really like Mint Update's 5 levels of categorization. In Linux Mint 12, right now a very minor kernel update shows up but is marked level 5, i.e. expected to be unstable or cause pr...

Re: How to customize input from USB Foot Switch?

I just downloaded the latest version of the software from the pcsensor website.
What they say is that it must be set under Windows for whatever key or string is desired but that it then works under Linux for operation, and that's certainly true.

Re: How to customize input from USB Foot Switch?

Yes it is, and I figured out since posting this that I could set the thing using Windows and it would retain the settings. The Windows app ran but didn't successfully see the pedal under WINE.
Overall, it is functional enough to be useful even though I need to access Windows to set the pedal.

Re: Firefox wont play on external USB audio

I know it's possible. It works under my system, but I'm using KXStudio on top of Mint KDE, and that means using JACK and ALSA stuff… I can't explain it all, I'm not an expert. The settings I have work though. Anyway, it all works on my system.

Re: KDE mysteries

I'm using Mint KDE and have not had problems. I don't know the answers to any of your questions, but installing KDE over Mint Gnome is not exactly the same as just using Mint KDE, though I can't say whether that would relate to your problems. I think the Mint KDE forum is not so active because lots ...

Re: Why are my applications not the latest possible version?

You can choose to install only select updates if you want using the update manager or synaptic package manager. You could even search in synaptic for specific apps if you want to select them for updating.

How to customize input from USB Foot Switch?

Hi, I just bought a cheap USB foot switch, and when I plug it in, no extra device shows up in my input control panel. Pressing it enters the letter "b". What I want to do is simply have some sort of control that will affect it and not my main keyboard. I just want to be able to choose what...

Re: Problem Linux Mint 12 KDE

I have tried two machines, both had this problem and now they are fixed. I installed the KDE 4.8 update through kubuntu backports (described elsewhere here), so maybe that did it. The other thing I installed was KXStudio, which does a lot of stuff. Anyway, it is clearly the case that just some updat...

Re: Edirol UA-25 EX working, but with some noise

Hi, I'm new too. Apparently, audio on Linux is more complex than it ought to be, but once set up it can work well. I first suggest you join the forum at http://linuxmusicians.com/ Also, you probably should go ahead and install KXStudio. It's a little complex, but basically you just enable the reposi...

Re: Don't sleep widget & Leopard Flower & other software...

bump? no reply about any of this? To clarify about Leopard Flower, I like knowing what my programs are doing and that sort of control and security. But I might skip it, at least for now, if anyone can reassure me that GNU/Linux software does a lot less phoning-home / other internet connection stuff ...

Re: App updates that don't appear in Software Manager?

Ok, so I can just search Launchpad.net to figure out status of programs in the packages? And in the case of something like Audacity, as you show there, if I prefer to be patient and wait for it in the Software Update, I can assume that if it shows finished packages, like your link appears to, then i...

Re: App updates that don't appear in Software Manager?

Well, I read over those things, and I'm a little confused. So, I searched for Sonic Visualiser and there was a listing. I eventually made my way to the Debian side of things, and there was clearly a discussion acknowledging Sonic Visualiser 1.9, so that's definitely somewhere in the stream, though I...

Re: [SOLVED] App updates that don't appear in Software Manag

Thanks, dagon! I'm looking into this now. I definitely want to be involved, as long as there are appropriate ways for me at this point. It looks like Sonic Visualiser might be getting some attention already, but I couldn't find reference to the Musescore 1.2 update, so maybe I can report that… And t...

Re: [SOLVED] App updates that don't appear in Software Manag

Thanks, those links look interesting, but they are very general. Here's what I'm looking for specifically: How can I find out whether or not people who update the repositories even know about (e.g.) Sonic Visualiser 1.9? If they aren't aware of it or no action is taking place or no steps for progres...

Re: App updates that don't appear in Software Manager?

Thanks! That well-written post answered most of my questions. However, I still would like to know: should I be a purely passive consumer or is there a way that I can help engage or support the process by which some of these updates make it to the main repository? I am certain that Firefox will be co...

App updates that don't appear in Software Manager?

Ok, so recently two items came up: Sonic Visualiser has been at v1.9 for months, Musescore was updated today to v1.2 But Software Manager only has the older versions. Should I be patient and wait for it to be updated? Can I do something, like contact someone and get them to update it? Or should I ju...

Re: How to type other characters

Ok, I found more acceptible advice: Under the advanced tab in keyboard layout settings, I just enabled the "compose key" I use the menu key, but there were other options… Then the items are closer to Mac-like simplicity. No crappy 3-key combo followed by some complex code and then a space....

Re: How to type other characters

Why does it have to be so complicated? I'll try that, but why can't it work like Mac, where that symbol is simply option-G. There are certain symbols that are used often (or should be), like em dash. I don't understand why it should be hard to just have a quick command for such things. The Mac appro...

[SOLVED] How to type other characters

Coming from a Mac, I'm finding it really frustrating to not be able to type an em dash — something I use all the time. I also would like to easily get accents, and ñ symbols and ellipses… How do I get this on LM KDE? I don't want to use a char-selector program for this if it means sorting through to...
