Re: My wireless keeps dropping!!

I think the answer lies here:

http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/har ... iwi.4.html

however I'm on Mint 12 and it seems my loader.conf and kernel .config are not where I'd expect  ...I'll keep looking though

Re: My wireless keeps dropping!!

It will be useful to know what kind of wireless card you have, so please post the output from sudo modprobe -l | grep ipw Can you also take a screenshot if the 'bad password' comes up again? Meanwhile, instead of restarting, why don't you try sudo ifconfig wlan0 down sudo ifconfig wlan0 up to restar...

Re: Mint 12 KDE

Does the wireless work ok from a livecd?

What is the 'lspci' output for 'Network Controller'?

However that PCI-E card does look like a pretty cool piece of hardware to own

Re: My wireless keeps dropping!!

I don't have a definitive answer, but I can certainly empathize. Being a new user, these will be of good use http://tldp.org/LDP/intro-linux/html/index.html http://tldp.org/LDP/GNU-Linux-Tools-Summary/html/index.html Are you able to open a terminal? Go ahead and try: cd .gnome2/keyrings sudo rm -rf ...

Re: Forum use observation

I remember starting my Linux journey a few years back. Sometimes things can be so new you don't even know what you are searching for, or how to apply things you have found out. You are left feeling like a little child who can only ask 'Why?' after every statement that is made. I think it takes a goo...

He is right - and I guess he is the grandfather of Linux - but what a jerk!

Re: Just one desktop?

I think the KDE has the multi-colored dots next to the menu, which opens the activities pane. In the top right of the pane, you can say 'new activity' > 'empty desktop'. There could be an extension for this, but otherwise this is the new normal. I started using MATE, a gnome2 fork, which seems to ha...

Re: right click not working

If this is gnome3, it appears a lot of this functionality is gone. you need to add it back by finding and installing extensions. I have found my way to MATE, which is a gnome2 fork, and much more comfortable for now. Maybe we will all have to conform eventually...

Re: Format hang up during install

Have you checked the disk for errors? Boot a livecd and

fsck -CFv /dev/sda

Also, if your system BIOS has a memory check, run that too.

Re: Losing my partitions

If you elected to use D or E as swap then yes, unfortunately they are gone. I think swap uses a special file format, which will erase any data that is there. Check the disk utility for the partition table. If the locations that used to be D and E are now called 'swap', they're gone :(

Re: File with UFW ports settings?

Although if you want to elaborate how to extract to a vmware virtual machine, that would be great. It was just a crazy idea. It's possible, but probably with a bit of hassle. Considering the image is already bootable, maybe you can do a conversion from the partimage file type to an .iso. Then run t...

Re: Drivers for - Webcam Logitech - Printer Dell

Have you checked under 'printers' in the Menu > System Tools > System Settings for the network printer? If it sees it, it will try to install the drivers automagically. Since it identifies the webcam...did you try to test it? Install and run 'cheese' and let us know if you see anything

Re: Music Player Problem

Interesting problem...can you give more detail on the crash (was it full system? just the program? did you need to restart? did the system recover?) Also, post some of your log files from

/var/log/Xorg.0.log
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old
~/.xsession-errors

Do you mean Update Manager? Try to open it after running 'sudo apt-get upgrade'.

Also, did you do anything to resolve the software manager crash?

Re: Applications Menus Lisa modify/edit?

Hey have you tried installing and running 'alacarte'. This works well for me on the gnome menu...I haven't adjusted too well the the 'Activities' panel yet so I'm unsure of it's impact there
