Re: macbook2,1 mid 2007 -- install okay but boot issue.
It sounds like you may have two copies of GRUB installed -- perhaps from two separate Linux installation attempts. You should be able to figure out something about them by looking at the descriptions that rEFInd shows when you select one of the GRUB instances. It's possible that one is a BIOS/CSM/le...

Re: macbook2,1 mid 2007 -- install okay but boot issue.
I got to a command prompt and typed sudo ubiquity -b by following this link but I did not update the boot loader as instructed because I thought i'm installing without the need of a boot loader: http://averagelinuxuser.com/install-linux-mint-without-a-bootloader/ A boot loader is *always* required;...

Re: Grub does not detect windows 7
If you used GParted, you've trashed your Windows boot loader. The Windows BIOS-mode boot loader includes hard-coded sector values embedded within it, and GParted does not modify those values when it moves or resizes an NTFS partition. This is one reason so many people advise using Windows tools when...

Re: Whats happening at automatic dual-boot UEFI install
There's a Python implementation for EFI, so you can run Python scripts from just about any boot manager -- you'd just need to configure the boot manager to run the Python interpreter with the right options to launch whatever Python scripts you want to run. That said, I've never done this myself, and...

Re: Can i run OSX alongside Mint
I've heard of people doing triple boots (usually OSX, Windows and Linux) - what i would be interested in - is an option to have several flavours of Linux alongside my OSX I am triple booting my 2014 MBP with OS X, W10, and Mint 17.3. I don't recommend installing several flavors of Linux. ...

Re: Dual-boot Linux boot error
If rEFInd doesn't help, then we need more information. In particular, Boot Repair should give you a URL. Post it here. Alternatively, run the Boot Info Script, post the RESULTS.txt file it generates to a pastebin site, and post the URL to your document here.

Re: Whats happening at automatic dual-boot UEFI install
However - I have one more Issue: for some Reasons I´m forced to use a specific GRUB-Version. To be exact - this one: https://github.com/biosbits I'd never heard of that tool before today. A quick perusal suggests that it's intended for some very high-level and specialized functions. It's also not c...

Re: Newbie Partitioning Help
It looks like you've got five EFI System Partitions (ESPs). These are your FAT partitions with the "boot flag" set. Normally just one ESP is sufficient, since it's designed to be shared across OSes. Having multiple ESPs should do no harm aside from the extra wasted disk space. I emphasize ...

Only the vaguest advice is possible given the information you've provided. Please share either the URL provided by Boot Repair or the RESULTS.txt file that you get when you run Boot Info Script. (Either post it here between code tags or post it to a pastebin site and share the URL to the document th...

Re: mounting HFS+
I believe that writing to journaled hfs filesystems is not supported in linux. Writing to journaled HFS+ is disabled by default, but reading should work fine. This is almost certainly the cause of the problem -- or at least, one of the causes. Permissions mis-matches can prevent writing to the volu...

Re: [SOLVED] device for bootloader installation
Why can't someone make a easy guide of all steps installing linux mint? we have to search for a lot of answers...I don't want to risk pc not booting up... There are too many variables: There are two boot modes: EFI vs. BIOS. Thus, two installation paths. Do you have Windows installed already? Yes o...

Re: Win 10 Secure Boot and Mint Not - Angry Neighbours!
I agree with Laurent85 -- you're problem isn't with Secure Boot per se (although it's conceivable that your firmware's Secure Boot implementation doesn't like Mint); it's that you've installed Mint in BIOS/CSM/legacy mode and Windows in EFI/UEFI mode. See this page of mine for more on this topic. As...

Re: Can't Install: Boot error when trying to install from US
Try another tool to create the USB drive. Multiple tools are available, and they aren't all created equal. Under Windows, Rufus probably has the best overall reputation, but even it is not guaranteed to work. (Also, Rufus has, IIRC, three options for how to create the disk, relating to support for B...

Re: How to add Win10 entry into GRUB ?
i believe i need to install win first. You don't need to install Windows first. Doing so makes it a bit easier because the last-installed OS's boot loader becomes the default, and GRUB handles booting Windows better than the Windows boot loader handles booting GRUB/Linux. Once you install Windows s...

Re: How to install on Lenovo UEFI netbook
My MacBookPro 1,1 from 2006 has 32-bit EFI, and I used the usual LMDE 32-bit installer after using BootCamp to partition the hard drive and then installing rEFInd. But I am not sure how Windows and Secure Boot play into this. All Intel-based Macs have a Compatibility Support Module (CSM), which ena...

Re: How to install on Lenovo UEFI netbook
It can be done, but it requires some extra hoop-jumping, because AFAIK Mint doesn't provide a 32-bit EFI boot loader on its 32-bit images. In fact, you might be better off with Debian, which (I think ) does provide 32-bit EFI-mode boot support. If you want to stick with Mint, though, the basic appro...

Re: Permissions fix for a shared HFS+ partition
You must do more than simply change the UID value in OS X; there are a bunch more fiddly little details to adjust. Various sites document how to do this. One I've referenced before is this one, but it's been long enough since I've done this that I can't promise that site is 100% accurate.

Re: Dual boot issue
You've made Mistake Number One when installing Linux in a dual-boot configuration with Windows already installed in EFI/UEFI mode: You've enabled your Compatibility Support Module (CSM) and installed Linux in BIOS/CSM/legacy mode. The two don't get along so well. Unfortunately, there's a lot of bad ...

Re: Dual booting with Windows 10
Before doing anything else, figure out your boot modes! Note the plural on "modes," too -- you could be booting Windows in one way (say, EFI/UEFI) and Mint in the other way (BIOS/CSM/legacy). See this page of mine for more on this topic. Computers that shipped with Windows 10 almost invari...
