Fullscreen Firefox & screenlock

How do I suppress screen locking when Firefox is full screen? Watching a video, it's annoying to have to move the mouse every so often to stop the screen from locking. Steam games seem to manage it, so is this a bug/setting in Firefox somewhere? Or is it something in Cinnamon? I'm on 17.3 64bit, ful...

Laptop suspend & external display

I'd like to be able to configure my laptop's suspend behaviour depending on whether an external HDMI display is configured. I'd like my laptop to suspend when the lid is closed without an HDMI connection, but when the HDMI connection is active, I'd like the laptop lid close to be ignored (i.e. the d...

Re: Qiana & Bumblebee (Intel + Nvidia laptop)

Just an update - after a little wrangling, it's now fully functional. Luckily, at no point did I lose Cinnamon, because the Intel GPU was running it :) Installing bumblebee & primus was no problem, however by default it uses the "nvidia-current" package, which is actually nvidia-304 at present. I in...

Re: Qiana & Bumblebee (Intel + Nvidia laptop)

Thanks for your posts guys, I'm not afraid of a little terminal work as long as the instructions are around (or it's obvious/logical to me). I'm gonna do a fresh install preserving /home due to age of Mint 14, probably tackle it this weekend so fingers crossed!

Re: Nvidia GeForce 6/7 are now "legacy support"

Still much better than AMD, who have already dropped even kernel & X support for my HD4850 (2 generations newer than the GeForce 6/7 series)

[SOLVED] Qiana & Bumblebee (Intel + Nvidia laptop)

At the risk of starting a duplicate topic, what is the story with Qiana and Bumblebee? I can't find anything concrete, other than the switching is supposed to happen in the driver now (kernel....?), but does it matter whether nouveau or nvidia is used? Historically, nouveau offers a much lower frame...

Re: System restarts instead of shutdown

It would uninstall them - next time you ran a dist-upgrade though, it would download the latest ones again.

Anyway, one bug report is here - https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/1272832 - there are others out there too (LMDE one here - https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/1095084)

Re: System restarts instead of shutdown

This is a registered bug (in fact, there are many instances of this on the Mint bug tracker!), it seems to be something to do with Cinnamon & ACPI, although one of the bugs refers to MATE too. Strangely, neither my Mint 14 or 16 system seem to be affected, so I have been unable to verify. Considerin...

Re: Upgrading woes

Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can recover this install now? I did consider backing up just the Steam folder (and the usual suspects - Documents, Music....), then deleting the user and recreating again. I'm mainly concerned, as this was a "trial run" for when Mint 17 comes out, as I'll be...

Re: Upgrading woes

Yeah, this was the reason for the splitting out of /home from / on the 16 install, will do it on EVERY install EVER now! Still kinda hoping there's a solution here - nothing's encrypted, so I'm hoping it's just a config/permissions issue. In terms of the owner of the folder, although I've used the s...

Upgrading woes

Tried to upgrade my rig from Mint 15 to 16, mainly as a test of procedure ahead of Mint 17 later this year. I followed the intructions here - http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/2 - performing a "fresh" installation. My system isn't set up exactly the same as the example, the differences ar...

Re: Bug in Linux x32 could allow privilege escallation

alas, as a Mint15 system I'm an orphan. I'll have to wait for MINT17 or jump ship and go Debian. ....or compile your own kernel without that option, if it bothers you that much. What do you get from: dpkg -l linux-image-$(uname -r) If it's 3.11.0-15.25 or higher, you don't need to do anything, the ...

Re: Bug in Linux x32 could allow privilege escallation

Just thought - you'll still see "CONFIG_X86_X32=y", but that part of the kernel has been patched, such that it is no longer vunerable. "CONFIG_X86_X32=y" refers to the functionality, not the vunerability.

Re: Bug in Linux x32 could allow privilege escallation

If this is really that bad, couldn't a "custom compiled" kernel without that switch be put into Mint's repo temporarily? It'd be superseeded by a future Ubuntu version when they patch it (even if APT can't work it out, at that point it could be pulled from Mint's repo)

I used to like the CPU/RAM widget on Windows 7. Re: Sword and Sworcery won't launch?

I can't remember off-hand, sorry :(
There is a config file under /home, but I can't remember which one holds the auto-execute commands. Might be worth posting that specific question in it's own thread on the main board (as it's a general question, and not gaming specific)

Re: Sword and Sworcery won't launch?

Wasn't aware there was an propriatory Intel drivers  I'm a bit stumped here. I think it's a symlink issue, as in the game is looking for the library in one location and it's not finding it. You normally get this when using the wrong distros packages (hence why repos are awesome). Normally you'...
