Re: Has anyone installed Linux on a Lenovo E590?

I didn't note each move I made on installation on my S340 but jglen490 seems to have captured all the important points in his post. I did try initially installing from an external cd/dvd drive through a usb port but the bios didn't seem to want to recognize it. I had no trouble when installing from ...

Re: Has anyone installed Linux on a Lenovo E590?

I decided to buy an S340 Lenovo instead of the E590 for reasons unrelated to the questions on this thread. A Newegg market dealer had more options on customization. From memory I think my dealer was dealsea or something like that. I am totally happy with the purchase which will be a gift for my daug...

Re: Has anyone installed Linux on a Lenovo E590?

Thanks for posting wannabe. I am planning to do the same as you. I have not bought the E590 yet, but wanted to ease the path to wiping Windows and installing Linux. I have been running various versions of Linux since the mid-nineties and have never had much difficulty installing. My current laptop i...

Re: Linux Mint - dnsmasq roadmap

I recently read an article at www.theregister.co.uk by lain Thomson regarding security issues with dnsmasq. To quote "Google security engineers have spotted not one, not two, but seven serious flaws in Dnsmasq, a fairly widely used DNS forwarder and DHCP server." "The worst bugs can be exploited ove...

Re: Zeitgeist Back?

It seems odd there is no category on the Board Index for security. I was somewhat dismayed to read the description of Zeitgeist in the updates and held off on updating until I had further imformation. I am sure many others have done the same. An internet search and a little reading brought some comf...

Re: Samba & Network Services (trimming the fat)

I have the same problem. I am trying to stop the samba service because I believe it is unnecessary for me.
I tried:

sudo /etc/init.d/ <samba> stop

which did not work. Also tried as su

Re: Orsenwok??

Thanks for the reply! Yes..I have searched online for the name and also have found almost nothing. It is puzzling to consider where this folder came from. I have also noticed that the profiles.ini would not open with gedit nor let the properties be shown. However today I CAN read it. And now there i...

Orsenwok??

I have used various distros of Mint over the last 5 or 6 years and recently installed LM14 64-bit Cinnamon. I have been connected to the internet very little as yet, because I was installing clamav, rkhunter, chkrootkit, lynis, and lastly tripwire. I know it sounds paranoid but corporations are ofte...

Re: [SOLVED] Printing to PDF produces blank PDFs

I simply added another printer and named it print to pdf2 and it works. However files that I had downloaded under the previous printer are still blank, even though they retain their file names. Anyone know the fix for this? These are important files for me. Thanks...

True Crypt

True Crypt does not show up in the software manager for Mint 10. Has anyone had experience running this in Mint 10 or Mint 11? Just wondering if it is compatible and if there have been many problems. I tend to try to stick to Mint approved apps as a rule. Thanks!

Re: Curl - Rkhunter

Thanks for the response! I knew it was a legitimate program I just didn't know if it was part of the original Mint 10 distro. It looks like it probably is, and I won't be eliminating it any time soon. If you look in the software section of Mint community and search curl it shows the program but only...

Curl - Rkhunter

Does anyone know if Curl is included in the original distro of Mint 10 Julia? It lists as a "suspicious" file when running rkhunter. I checked the history on Update Manager because I remember some curl files in a previous update. The history shows some lib files updated but I don't see the curl bina...
