in these days xorg has been updated... so i think it replaces any module installed by your nvidia driver (i think this: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so)

so try to reinstall your driver and see if it works

mkv and mka are only containers developed by matroska... so the problem is the codec... then check if you have or not the direct rendering

then if you have it, try to run this:

what's the dvd's filesystem? iso9660 or UDF?

if they are UDF (or you don't know) try to edit your /etc/fstab

and change it like this:
/dev/hdc /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0
in
/dev/hdc /media/cdrom0 auto user,noauto 0 0

change only the thing in bold :)

Ok thank you. just a follow up - so if I install another 'engine' gtk? or whatever else there is....not sure at the moment what the others ar called....then you cannot just use anything from the category of each engine or extension that you have loaded but have to define and pick which engine is in...

Metacity is the standard window manager of gnome... so if you don't have installed another window manager do the procedure on the previous post

to open gconf you may open a terminal and then do this:
