Re: What is this Firefox Update from Finland?

Thanks for your interest. No, refreshing the update manager does not clear it. In fact de-selecting the update, then installing the other updates that are current, and refreshing just gets the firefox update selected again. Here is the output of the cmd you asked for: apt list --upgradeable Listing....

Re: What is this Firefox Update from Finland?

apt list firefox-locale-* | grep installed
gives no output.
But without the grep part, it returns a long list that looks like this:
firefox-locale-fi/tricia 73.0.1+linuxmint1+tricia amd64
The one I show here is for finland. There are 93 in total.

What is this Firefox Update from Finland?

Running Mint 19.3. On only one of my machines my Software updater wants to install a new version of Firefox (security update) but the description is: Firefox mahdollistaa selailun turvallisesti ja helposti. Tuttu käyttöliittymä, tehokkaat suojaukset verkon haittoja vastaan ja integroitu haku tarjoav...

Re: System Hanging up During Suspend

I am having exactly the same problem. But only on one machine. The problem is not related just to MINT, I have it on BIonic and even on Fedora 30. The problem is intermittent; sometimes Suspend works, sometimes it doesn't. I can add the following detail which might help. If the suspend works OK, the...

Re: How do I Update Kernel in Tina mint19.2? Solved

I found my problem. I have two hard drives I boot from, one with Mint19, and one with Windows. The Mint19 update-grub was changing the menu on the /dev/sdb drive, but my BIOS was set to boot from the /dev/sda drive. When I booted from the sda drive and run update-grub then when I restarted I got a m...

How do I Update Kernel in Tina mint19.2?

I have just upgraded from Mint19 (tara) to Mint19.2 Tina. All went smoothy. I see that now I have kernel 4.15_70 installed, but I am still booting into the Tara kernel 4.15_20. The advanced options in the grub menu do not give me the option of using a new kernel. Nor does Update Manager give me the ...

Re: "Could not download all respository indexes"

sudo dpkg --remove-architecture 1386
I dont know what the reason for this cmd is but it looks to me like 1386 (one-386) is a typo. I would expect it to be i386 (eye-386).

Logging IP Addresses

Does Linux keep a log of which IP addresses were connected to / or received from ?
Where would this log be kept, and which tool (journalctl?) would I use to view the log if there is one?

Thanks,

Re: Minimal BASH-like grub issue

It sounds like the UEFI bios has decided that it wants the USB stick in as its primary boot device. Can you get into the UEFI menu at power on (DEL key, or similar depending on the cpu model) and reset the default boot device to /dev/sda? On my UEFI systems, the UEFI is smart enough to detect when a...

Re: Swappiness file seems to have moved?? .... Solved ...

Changing the value in the sysctl.conf file will take effect on the next boot. So in that sense the change is permanent, If you just want to change the current value you can (as sudo) write the value to the file /proc/sys/vm/swappiness (This is not really a file on disk, the /proc/sys "directory" is ...

How To Use Nemo Extensions

In another thread here there is reference to calculating Checksums on files by right clicking. I cant figure out how to do this. Going to the Plugins menu in Nemo (3.8.6) I can see an SHA256 plugin along with several other ones, they are all active but none of them show up when I right click a file....

Re: [SOLVED] Sorting USB / SD card for mp3 player

I have not tried fatsort, will have to give that a go. However there is another approach Does your mp3 player handle playlists? If that is the case you can create a .m3u file with the names of the tracks in the order you want them. you can just do a ls >myplaylist.m3u and have the files in alphabeti...

Samba Protocol Changes for servers

There have been several excellent posts by among others, altair4, on the subject of samba. Here is what I have discovered through some testing of various options. I am assuming that where possible you would want to use the latest of whatever if you can. Note this post is about setting up a SERVER. I...

Re: Any disadvantage reverting back to Legacy BIOS?

How old is your MoBo? I have heard that new Mobos come with UEFI; the "Legacy Bios" option is a bit of a hack and may not work all that well especially with new hardware. it used to be that BIOS was more reliable than UEFI, but now that UEFI is well established the reverse may be true, especially if...

NVIDIA Driver 390 API mismatch Mint 19 Tara

I was running NVIDIA driver 340, and I just tried NVIDIA 390 as the driver manager recommends. But the Xorg server still shows using 340, and the dmesg command shows many many instances if this error message: [ 1416.623505] NVRM: API mismatch: the client has the version 390.77, but NVRM: this kernel...

Re: Installation Failed with "'Grub-efi-amd64-signed' package failed to install into /target/"

Failing to install GRUB is a known bug with the MINT19 ISO version 1. Version 2 is supposed to fix this. Are you using version 2 of the ISO? The workaround (if you don't want to download a new ISO) seems to be to install without an internet connection active. i.e unplug the cable, (or don't sign on ...

Re: Transferring files from Windows to Linux MInt

I assume that your laptop is capable of booting either windows or Linux? So you have a Windows C drive and a Linux "root partition" (also known as /). You want to get files from your C drive to say /home/myuser? To Transfer files from Windows to Linux, you have two options: A) (via USB stick) Under w...
