Change Default Application for CD/DVD How?

Originally when I inserted a CD/DVD I got a pop up window asking me what to do. Then I chose an application (sound juicer) and ticked the bos that said, 'Always do this'. Now I want to change back to asking me what to do each time. Where is the setting that lets me do that? I can't find it in settin...

Solved Re: zfs-import.target Why does Mint 21.2 Victoria need this?

systemctl status zfs-import.service
○ zfs-import.service
Loaded: masked (Reason: Unit zfs-import.service is masked.)
Active: inactive (dead)

So it is masked for me too. Still takes 57 msec on the critical chain, but I guess no harm done. Mark as solved.

zfs-import.target Why does Mint 21.2 Victoria need this?

Looking at systemd-analyze time or critical-chain I see that systemd starts the zfs-import.service. Since I have no ZFS on my system why do i need this? Is ZFS now part of standard Ubuntu and the preferred FS over ext4, even for a desktop? I get that ZFS and BTRFS have some neat features like snapsh...

Re: Startup time at Mint logo too long. FSTAB

Just a suggestion. Whenever you make a change to fstab (or any critical system config file) make a bakcup first. so sudo su ; cd /etc; cp fstab fstab_works ; then edit. After you have edited and saved fstab, then you can test the new one by issuing a mount command. So say you changed the line for /h...

Re: flatpak: Update Manager does not ask for Password

I have done a bit of reading on flatpak 'sandboxes' and it seems as if they are next to useless. (google it and read a few Reddit posts) My issue is that when I download an app from a Repo I am trusting the manager of the repo not to include apps with malware or backdoors built in. This is true AFIK...

Re: Only linux-firmware won't install, saying disk is full? BOOT partition?

I think that the firmware files are installed to the boot directory, along with the initrd and vmlinuz files. If that is the case, AND you have a separate boot partition (which is the norm these days) then it could be that it is your boot partition that is full, and not your whole disk. Boot partiti...

Re: Kali on other drive took over GRUB how to change back to mint having grub

I presume that your machine is a UEFI machine since BIOS machines are so old. If that is the case, then the efibootmanger has a setting that says in which order to try booting things. If you want Mint to boot first you can change the order either thru your UEFI screen at power on, (hit the UEFI 'key...

Re: Is there a better Linux calculator? Galculator?

Re searching for calculators in the repos, you can try sofrware manager, and then search calculators. It brings up a couple of screens worth of applications. BTW what does the XP calculator do the Galculator does not? Galculator looks like it does base conversion and trig functions and so on ... pgm...

Re: IP address change not surviving reboot

First I am not sure I understand your problem. If you just let enp0 get a valid ip address from the Router/DHCP server then could you not browse your home or school net whichever you happen to be on? Anyway if you want to assign a static IP address that survives reboots you can: 1) click on the conn...

Victoria (Mint 21.2) Cups PKI Expired Bug

My printer a Xerox B210 will print properly if I manually enter it as an LPD printer or as an IPP printer. But for 'discovered' printers it will not print. It gives a 'PkI Expired Cert' error. I have modified the policies to include the 'Allow Expired Certs' option as described in previous posts but...

Further Suggestions for Timeshift use

A couple of things that might or might not be covered in the previous answers. 1) Timeshift is mostly used for backup up the OS; not for backing up home directories. 2) It is easy to create an on demand backup once you have configured it. I don't run timeshift on a schedule; but I run it every time ...

Re: flatpak: Update Manager does not ask for Password

Thanks for the hint re /root partition; I don't have even one. (I do have a 40GB root partition (aka /) if that is what you mean. My problem is not with flatpaks per se; it is with Update Manager not asking for authorisation before updating critical system components, or what could be critical syste...

flatpak: Update Manager does not ask for Password

When applying updates via Synaptic, the user must provide the administrator password. But when applying a flatpak update the Update Manager does not use Synaptic and does not ask for a password.
Asking for a password should be a requirement for all system updates whether they use Synaptic or not.

Default Document Viewer cant do double sided

In Mint Vera the default document viewer (Xreader/Xviewer) cant do double sided printing. I have to use Evince for that. Evince has worked OK for some time now, why the change to a buggy alternative?

Re: Nemo Compilation Without Optimization

1. There is usually a file called 'Makefile' or 'makefile' which contains all the instructions (shell commands) to compile and install an application. This should have been included when you acquired the source. If you can find the Makefile you can edit it and add an 'environment variable such as CC...

Thanks for the reply. TBH I am not certain where to post this. I did not have a link to mintupdate on github. Update Manager -- Kernel Cleanup

Currently when one uses Update Manager to remove kernels no longer needed, after EVERY kernel it removes it re-runs grub to regenerate grub.cfg. If one has queued several (up to 20?) kernels for removal this wastes a LOT of time. Is it possible to modify Update Manager so that it only does the 'upda...

Re: systemd monitor-lvm2.service hangs for 15+ mins

Sorry but there would be no point in doing that at this time. And no I have never used LUKS or LVM or encrypted home folders at any time. One reason I have steered clear of Fedora is that they seem to want to encourage you to do that. It seems as if there is some confusion over what my question was;...

Re: systemd monitor-lvm2.service hangs for 15+ mins

Oh yes. I have done that. I have even installed Vera in UEFI mode successfully on a machine that does not use NVIDIA graphics.
But anything else and this ISO of VERA I have had nothing but problems with.

systemd monitor-lvm2.service hangs for 15+ mins

I am trying to install a Vera in compatibility mode, and during the boot before I even get to the desktop I see a bunch of systemd text. One of the messages is 'A start job is running for ....... lvm2.service (15 min 0 secs) No limit'. And it just stays there. I have no interest in LVM (if I did I w...
