Re: Copying files to another hard drive, part II

But what command did you run? Was it sudo chown -R $USER:$USER /media/xxxx/WORKING ? Or something like sudo chown -R $USER:$USER /media/pengyou/Some-Partition ? The whole point of the second instruction is that you were supposed to modify the form of command for your particular circumstances. Even ...

Re: Copying files to another hard drive, part II

Which command did you execute for chown as advised? sudo chown -R $USER:$USER /media/xxxx/WORKING Replace /media/xxxx/WORKING with the mount point for your drive. These are the steps that I followed. If I use my linux thumb drive to boot from, will I be able to copy files from the full drive to the...

https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=168127&sid=6acb4f7fcb6b77c27ec951099687a525 I have read through this thread and tried all of the suggestions, aside from booting from a live disk but to no avail. I have one hard drive that is almost full - has maybe 50 mb of room left. I want to cop...

Download YT channels

I thought I had posted this here but cannot find it. I have used 4kvideo downloader for a couple of years in Windows and it worked well. I installed it on Mint but found that it didn't work. I even went back a couple of versions in the app and it didn't work well. I am looking for an app that will n...

Load balancing for dummies...

I would like to combine two internet services to get one signal with faster upload and download. I know that routers perform this service. Is it possible to install 2 or 3 nics in one computer and get the same results? I have googled this question and quickly got in over my head. The answer I am hop...

Slow network access

I installed mint on my computer a few weeks ago and everything is working well except for one thing. My surfing experience is very slow. I am using 4Kdownloader to load playlists and usually end up with most things being unable to download. I connect my internet cable to my notebook (win 7) and I ha...

Re: Syncing cell phone and mint

Thanks! I guess my question was not clearly worded. I think, what I need, is, for example, an addressbook app that I can install on mint and android that will allow both to sync with each other. I tend to not trust things that say "cloud" in them or any apps or programs that require me to send perso...

Syncing cell phone and mint

I have seen some apps out there that will let a person connect their android phone to a mint install. From what I gather after reading the descriptions, all they do is turn the phone into an external storage device that lets you copy files back and forth. Is there something that will provide sync fu...

Using a notebook as an internet server?

Not sure if that is the right name...I have a notebook that I no longer use - an i3 with 4 gb of RAM. I would like to be able to use it for downloading files - I sometimes line up a string of files that takes 2-3 days to download, and the notebook uses very little electricity. Is there some way I ca...

Can't find an installed program

I have a fresh copy of mint on my desktop. Today I installed my vpn's app on it - they have one set up for Linux. The app installed with no problems, dependencies were ok, etc but there was no desktop link made for it. I searched the entire hard drive looking for it - for anything new - but could no...

I left it in the prompt mode when I went to sleep. When I woke up, Linux was running! I choose the option to install to the disk...it is installing now...a little spooky!
