VLC hangs the computer

In Linuxmint Cinnamon 19.1 Tessa the normal VLC from the repository and also the flathub, sometimes hang the computer. Is this happening to someone also or only me? I double click on a movie and VLC launches and the computer screen freezes, you can move the mouse but it doesn't work anywhere when yo...

[SOLVED] Create launcher doesn't work on Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon

Linuxmint 19.1 Cinnamon

When I do right click on the desktop and choose "Create a new launcher here"

nothing happens. I can't create launchers on the desktop now in 19.1 (I had no such problem in former versions)

Re: It is needed a list of compatible Wifi Adaptors

Something to try if you live in a densely populated area. There's an app for android devices called WiFi Analyzer(several actually), I believe there's also one for Apple and Windows machines. I haven't found one for Linux yet. It will show you graphically what channels in your area are the most con...

Re: 802.11 ac issues

Welcome to the dessertic 5Ghz 802.11ac wifi support in linux. Some of the very few devices supported at this moment, listed here: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=234143 I myself am using a long ethernet wire to connect to the router so I can use the whole download bandwith (it is the wi...

Re: It is needed a list of compatible Wifi Adaptors

A interesting thread about the 5Ghz Wifi Adaptors (802.11ac) is this one: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=234143 The router of my internet provider comes with 2.4Ghz and a 5Ghz wifi. I am currently using the 2.4Ghz one with an adaptor TP-LINK WN722N in my linux to connect and it works w...

It is needed a list of compatible Wifi Adaptors

I have linuxmint 18.1 and one of the wifi usb adaptors works (but is an old one only supporting bands B and G) the other using band N (300 Mbps) doesn't work and you have to compile yourself and even with that it hangs. So I think it would be a good idea to include a list of the wifi adapters that w...

Re: Nemo is extremely slow cutting files from one disk to another

I know why nemo continues crippled as years pass. On the source of nemo code, on the cut and paste folder there is a readme that says this: "...In the soon to come, Star Trek future, this code will be available as part of standard libraries. For example, the code in libegg will be one day available ...

That's 29 directories.
Even with only 29 folders the thing is hanging for 20 minutes to copy 600 files. :-D

Re: Nemo is extremely slow cutting files from one disk to another

Ha! Just look at the code and first folder is "cut and paste code" (migrating away from gnome) it says. https://github.com/linuxmint/nemo Well, the migration was completely unsuccessful I would say! And it says on the readme: "The code in this directory hierarchy was cut-n-pasted from somewhere else...

Re: Nemo is extremely slow cutting files from one disk to another

What I am doing is copy the files and then delete them from the origin. This way I can at least work. With cut it goes like 20 minutes as I said to do the work of moving. Cut is doing something wrong. The correct way would be to copy the files and then delete them in the origin. Probably what is doi...

Nemo is extremely slow cutting files from one disk to another

Try this: Create a folder "Photos" And inside create a folder "01" and put inside 20 jpg images. Create another folder 02 and put inside 20 jpg images, make sure the names are different because later we will merge the contents. So create folders this way with 20 jpg and reach 600 images in total, so...

Re: Linuxmint 18.1 doesn't work well with ntfs, does bad copies

I used nemo, thunar, and rsync for example: rsync -av --progress "/media/bao/B2/roms/" "/media/bao/C2/99/roms" The errors appeared on every copy method, I had the problems on nemo, thunar and rsync. I had yet linuxmint 18 so I was back to it and deleted already the 18.1 so I can't test anymore. I th...

Linuxmint 18.1 doesn't work well with ntfs, does bad copies

Linuxmint 18 works perfect. But Linuxmint 18.1 (both 64 bits) doesn't work with ntfs well (I didn't tested the other filesystems but probably is only ntfs). I have several disks with ntfs partitions so I can write them on windows and linux. On windows10 you have to uncheck one option so windows free...

Re: Fixing 18.1 freezes and annoying bugs.

I don't have those problems but I have a new one: When I am copying lots of files usually cinnamon crashes and restarts. I was thinking perhaps nemo is the culprit so I want to install another file manager. I installed dolphin (kde) but this one doesn't show icons in my linuxmint 18.1 cinnamon. I re...

Great I solved it. You just run this on a terminal: xinput --list --short And it gives this to me: ⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)] ⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ USB Optical Mouse id=11 [slave pointer (2)] ⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2...

[SOLVED] Mouse is too fast

In settings/mouse and touchpad I set Acceleration to "zero" (Slow it says) and Sensitivity to maximum (High) but it is yet too fast. Years ago I was using Acceleration almost at the half of the slider so I could move the hand and move the mouse on the screen from one side to the other, and if I was ...
