Re: [SOLVED] The Best filesystem for a USB external disk (4 Terabytes)

How are you determining these speeds? The best test is to select a folder with mixed files of say 4GB and time it with the different file systems speed to copy from your desktop to the drive. That way it's a real world test. I was testing with 2 files of 8 GB each (16 GB total) and placed in a SSD....

Re: [SOLVED] The Best filesystem for a USB external disk (4 Terabytes)

I have tested a different 4 TB external disk: ntfs: 147 MB/s exfat: 162 MB/s With a 32 GB pendrive results are: ext4: 16 MB/s f2fs: 29 MB/s ntfs: 29 MB/s exfat: 30 MB/s ext4 is also very bad on pendrives!!! (if you are installing linux on a pendrive don't use ext4) (I have not yet tested the propose...

Re: [SOLVED] The Best filesystem for a USB external disk (4 Terabytes)

I will check with a 32 GB usb and with a 128 GB usb now, to see if ext4 performs better or similar badly as it did with the 4 TB device, I also could not understand why it did so bad. I will take a look about that "journaling" thing you posted above and see if it affects the speed. Someone in anothe...

Re: Mint 19.3 and Apple iOS 13.3 any new successful syncing methods?

P.S. Those who feel compelled to express how much they hate Apple etc. at every opportunity they have need not waste time commenting here. Thanks again! Are you able to read minds? :D I don't have Apple but I suppose it can share a folder for windows. Linux can also so then just browse the local ne...

Re: Everything on screen is too large

1) The screen is already in its highest resolution (1300ish - 700ish) I have to zoom out each website to 80% to see it normally. Strangely the Linux Mint Forum looks fine and normal without zooming it out. Any solutions for my problem? The problem is only in the browser or on other programs? If it ...

[SOLVED] The Best filesystem for a USB external disk (4 Terabytes)

I connected the 4 TB device in linux and formatted it because it came with a small "windows" partition and I didn't like it. So I doubted if using ext4, ntfs or other. I tried ext4 and started moving 500 GB to the device. It started copying fast but after a few minutes speed came so low as 6 MB/s So...

Mate linuxmint vs Mate Ubuntu

I was installing linux in a very old computer with 1.7 GB RAM only. Distros like Linuxmint Cinnamon was very slow because the few RAM, so I ended comparing Linuxmint Mate vs Ubuntu Mate. The used RAM in Linuxmint Mate was 1.7 GB (using all the RAM  ). In Ubuntu Mate the used RAM is 0.7 GB only...

Applets gear wheel is greyed out so can't change.
You need to add it first to the panel clicking on the button with a plus sign. Do you see the button with the minus is also grayed, that is why
that applet is not yet added. When you add it also the gear wheel become active.

Re: How to avoid people deleting the taskbar?

I think is SOLVED: First do login with the administrator account Now go to the filesystem/home folder (there are two folders there: the administrator and the user) Enter in the folder of the user. Activate show hidden folders and enter the /.config folder Now enter in the /dconf folder (you will hav...

[SOLVED] Nemo can't search files with ':' in the name

SOLVED: Use wildcards: *:* ------------------------ When I download pdfs from internet, sometimes they contain ':' in the name. So I put these files in an USB and when trying to read it in windows, every file with the ':' character on the name makes windows go crazy. So before going to windows I usu...

Re: How to avoid people deleting the taskbar?

Thanks everyone for answering. The computer has two accounts, one is admin and then the other is the user. When someone deletes the taskbar it is done in the user account. Going to the shop to reconstruct the user account is a pain as you can see. I was thinking about locking some files as administr...

Re: It is needed a list of compatible Wifi Adaptors

Something to try if you live in a densely populated area. There's an app for android devices called WiFi Analyzer(several actually), I believe there's also one for Apple and Windows machines. I haven't found one for Linux yet. It will show you graphically what channels in your area are the most con...
