Re: LMDE Boot Faster

Follow the instructions from Lifehacker or follow the #! thread here

You probably have not profiled your boot with:

Code: Select all

init=/sbin/e4rat-collect
Yes it definitely works on Debian

Re: LMDE Boot Faster

Look at E4Rat to speed up boot times. This is one of the reasons Antix Linux is so fast to start.

Re: fm3 preliminary package for testing.

I think there may be some issues with detecting the current working directory on systems with encrypted partitions. I have crypted volumes for /home & /root & now get errors on uninstalling fluxdgmenu such as: sh: 0: getcwd() failed: No such file or directory & files are installed to /home/root/.flu...

Re: [solved] open 2 web browsers system unresponsive or lock

It does make a difference - with 2 gig of RAM + ZRAM I no longer have Virtualbox crashing if I have lots of applications open. Perhaps also consider a lighter desktop than GNOME - XFCE or Fluxbox (or both)

Re: systemd (re)entered testing today! Should Mint adopt it?

It seems if you have a separate partition for /boot & / running systemd will not work without systemd-sysv also being installed. Along with e4rat I now boot around 35% faster. ZRAM is also a nice tweak putting compressed swap into RAM.

Re: How can I play wii games?

If you are running Mint Debian I have made a Dolphin 3.0 deb for 32 bit here It is also simple to compile & build your own deb if you are using 64 bit. After installing the dependencies Instead of running: make && make install Run this to build & install a deb: sudo apt-get install checkinstall make...

Re: "Testing" the new Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx

The new xorg video drivers run very well on the Intel GM965 under Xubuntu Lucid. Blood Frontier / Nexuiz / Smokin Guns / Urban Terror all give around 30-60 FPS. The best way to install Lucid is to start by installing 9.10 & edit /etc/apt/sources.list to lucid from karmic & then do the dist upgrade v...
