I am using external USB optical drive. Maybe this fact makes the difference for Brasero? Will post the rest later.

Maybe it helps to localize the problem with the locked keyboard after I hit Fn-Up to change the brightness:
the problem disappears after I go to suspend to RAM with Fn-Esc (still works in this locked up situation) and wake up.
