Re: How to remove NEMO from favorites?

Thanks Moem. I had used the menu editor in the past, but it was a long time ago and I had forgotten it. There was an item "Show bookmarks and places". Unchecking it solved my problem.

Well done!

Re: How to remove NEMO from favorites?

I had tried dragging the icon off the menu and nothing happened. After your suggestion I tried dragging it to the menu area. That worked, in a way... It no longer shows in the Favorites portion of the menu are, but it now appears under the Categories area. Do you happen to know of a way of getting r...

[Solved] How to remove NEMO from favorites?

Because of intermittent problems connecting to my networked file system (FreeNAS), I installed Nautilus. However, I seem unable to remove Nemo's icon from Favorites in the menu. What I tried was to rename all the .desktop files that had "nemo" in their names -- that effectively borked my installatio...

Re: How to install GPG2?

That explains the gpg2 reference. Since I'm not running under Qubes any more (Linux Mint 19.1 + Cinnamon), Split GPG is no longer relevant. However, thank you for the explanation.

Thanks Josep. As you thought, it is too late now. However, I am grateful you took the time to post a solution.

Re: How to install GPG2?

Ah, so that's the problem. I came across references to installing GPG2 because of enhanced functionality. I have just finished several months of running Qubes (terrific in terms of architecture, but too many little, non-security-related bugs). It required "gpg2" tn order to set-up up something calle...

How to install GPG2?

Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon

How do I get gpg2 installed? There is a "transitional package", but all it does is create a symlink to gpg -- I want the "real" gpg2.

I have spent the better part of an hour searching the forums (and general www) for an answer, with no luck.

Re: LM 19.1 Cinnamon - Dead black icon in Panel

Thanks all :) First I tried cpu2910's suggestion. I checked what was being auto-started on login. There it was! The Print Queue Applet, whose icon was not appearing in the panel. I set it not to auto-start and logged-out and back in. No more black icon. I suspect the problem is my not yet having add...

Re: Are vertical panels useful?

I am also a fan of a vertical panel for the same wide screen arguments made by others. I find anything that diminishes the vertical screen space annoying (I have abandoned distros that only allow horizontal panels). The calendar applet: I ran into the problems mentioned by others. The problem was so...

[solved] LM 19.1 Cinnamon - Dead black icon in Panel

I have LM 19.1 Cinnamon installed on an Intel NUC7i7. All updates have been applied. The panel is the default, however I have moved it to the right-hand side of the screen. At the bottom (normally on right side of horizontal panel) are applets. There is one square black icon (the panel has a backgro...

Re: Cinnamon Problems After Upgrade - Thunderbird & Favorites Menu

Re the thunderbird issue there is a pending fix. It's a bug in the original window-list applet that current thunderbird exposes. You can apply the fix in advance of it being rolled out as outlined here https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/8196 Thank you for a fix that tackles the root cause...

Would you mind sharing your experience with Thunderbird, now that it's been purged and re-installed?
Certainly, though I will wait a few days so I have some real experience (I do not receive or send a large volume of email messages).

Re: Cinnamon Problems After Upgrade - Thunderbird & Favorites Menu

The issue for me is this problem seems clearly connected to Linux Mint 19.1 — it only happened after I installed 19.1 and started out always freezing after a "send". <snipped> I do not do "upgrade"s to new releases. Instead I have my disk partitioned with a "/" partition and a separate "/home" part...

Re: Cinnamon Problems After Upgrade - Thunderbird & Favorites Menu

@oblias — I will keep your suggestion in mind. I would like to avoid going to that extreme (I've had to recover emails in the past and I find the process unsatisfactory). What I now do is keep an absolute minimum of emails in Thunderbird — generally only involving things I am currently working on. A...

Re: Cinnamon Problems After Upgrade - Thunderbird & Favorites Menu

I have the “Thunderbird problem”. I read this thread several days ago after getting frustrated rebooting my computer (I had forgotten there were keyboard shortcuts to restart the desktop environment). I tried the uninstall/reinstall trick and, at first, it seemed to have resolved the issue. However,...

Re: Linux compatible 2 in 1 laptop

I run Linux Mint 18 Xfce on an HP Spectre X360. There are issues using the touch screen if an external monitor is also connected — it may be fine in mirroring mode, but I use the two monitors (the external and the laptop's) to increase my screen real estate. Otherwise it runs just fine. I used LM 17...

Re: LM 18 Xfce - Filezilla no longer launching

I have always partitioned my disk drive so /home is a separate partition. That means I can always do a clean install by using the option to select partitions during the install. I also have / formatted so there's no junk left by "installing over the top of the previous release". I'm using the versio...

Re: update firefox in mint 18

I also had my search engine changed... when I started Firefox and did a search it used Google (I always use DuckDuckGo). When I changed the search engine back to DuckDuckGo there was no problem. However, I did note during the process that there appear to be some changes in how Firefox handles search...

LM 18 Xfce - Filezilla no longer launching

System information at the bottom. Filezilla was working fine up until this afternoon I've been running LM 18 for a couple of days). Having used it earlier, I went to launch it again and realized I had not added it to Favorites after installing LM 18, so immediately did so. When I went to launch it, ...
