Re: When should I install flatpaks over standard applications?

Thank you both, this wraps up my understanding. It makes a lot of sense. I'll leave Flatpaks to problematic applications or the ones I really need the latest version. Slack chat application is one of them for example, Steam is my bet another one.

When should I install flatpaks over standard applications?

Hi all, I am curious about, as of this writing, when to decide to install a flatpak over a normal application. I understand the advantage of flatpak is that it is self contained application, not using system dependencies. Nonetheless what are the disadvantages? By what I've seen so far, flatpak dire...

Re: Broadcom WiFi works in live image but not after installation

I believe this is because the proprietary drivers are active in the live session for testing purposes but inclusion of proprietary drivers in the actual installation is kept optional, in keeping with the Linux "ethics" or whatever the proper term is for this. Doesn't help in these cases unfortunate...

Re: Broadcom WiFi works in live image but not after installation

Sorry.....long pause and several phone calls got me off track. OK....I looked more closely for a reason. You're running the BETA Mint 18.3 Sylvia and not a production Distro. Generally, not discussed here, as this Forum is for Mainstream support discussions. Could be and probably is a beta bug. I k...

Card-1: Broadcom BCM43142 802.11b/g/n driver: wl bus-ID: 07:00.0 IF: wlp7s0 state: up mac: <filter> Looks like it's installed. I believe you need to manually enable. Go to the panel/system tray and locate the Icon for network (looks like 2 plugs with gap betwen them). Click on it and look for Wifi ...

Broadcom WiFi works in live image but not after installation

Hi all, I have a question that calls my attention dearly. I have installed LinuxMint on my Sony Vaio notebook, which comes with a proprietary driver broadcom WiFi. To my surprise, during installation, driver is recognized and I can connect to WiFi. But, after installation, when I boot for the first ...

Cinnamon: disable workspace switch window selection

Hi all, I cannot find a way to disable window picking when choosing workspace in the full screen switcher. I have the switcher in my bottom hot corners, and would like to quickly switch worksplace using the mouse click, but when I hover, the workspace becomes a window picking section and I end up cl...

Anyone could workaround Webex?

Hello Everyone! I am struggling a lot since one of my client uses Webex for its meeting. And webex has a horrible java applet client that doesnt take anything from PulseAudio / Alsa. problems booting - gfxpayload

Hi all ! This is my first time in Home-Linux (I've started using linux in my job and once I got used to it, I had a difficult time enjoying windows, so I installed it on my desktop). I had to comment this line: set gfxpayload=$linux_gfx_mode in order to make my Mint boot up. I was getting a blank sc...
