Re: Two different browsers open downloaded files in same wrong program

... basically add " inode/directory =nautilus.desktop;" (or whatever file-browser) to ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list ... Hi @Flemur, @phd21, thanks to both for the rapid responses! Actually, the boldfaced part in Flemur's reply, inode/directory , was the key factor in solving it. I did i...

Two different browsers open downloaded files in same wrong program

Both Firefox and Chrome have started opening downloaded files in Mirage, when 'Open Containing Folder' icon is clicked, in browser's download context menu. Because two completely different browsers are affected in the same way, I suspect a problem in KDE settings, possibly a corrupt mime entry -- bu...

Re: Dirty COW bug kernel fix for Rosa?

Upgrade to the latest kernel of the 3.13 series (currently 3.13.100, if I'm not mistaking: it's at the top of the list and not down below, because of a counting bug in Update Manager). Ah! Thanks much for that and yes, it is out of sequence, at the top -- where you said it would be. This bit of inf...

Re: Dirty COW bug kernel fix for Rosa?

The dirty COW kernel bug will be with you [in Rosa] as long as you go on using kernel 3.19. Could you please rephrase that, to make it applicable to Rosa running 3.13.0-24 (3.13.9) ? This is the kernel my Rosa installation came with. originally, and until now I never considered upgrading it. The OP...

Re: Plasma 5.6 changes setup of KDE's multiple virtual desktops

Can you pls post the direct link here? Here you are: this is the script and instructions on how to use it . I haven't tried it just yet, myself. My desktops are configured OK in Mint 17.3 KDE, with Plasma 4.x. My plan right now is to wait until Mint 18 KDE goes stable, see how that works, with the ...

Re: wxHexEditor v0.23-beta for Rosa

Another one: GHex. Thanks! Frankly, the sole reason I selected wxHexEditor was because Patrick Verner uses it in his Parted Magic utility, and he seems to put a great deal of thought into what he elects to include. My copy is about two years old, however. Have you a preference between the two progr...

wxHexEditor v0.23-beta (for Rosa, only)

I see searching for wxHexEditor on this forum gets no hits, so here is a post for the purpose of making it easier for anyone else running Rosa to find this .deb file, without (also) having to search the internet -- for several hours. :? The most recent version is available here . The usual precautio...

Re: Plasma 5.6 changes setup of KDE's multiple virtual desktops

... several posts in the KDE bug-report indicate its multiple desktops are now more functional than those in KDE -- at least, for users accustomed to doing it the way it used to be done, in Plasma versions before 5.x. Sorry, this is not correct. The standard Xfce desktops do shift wallpaper, but th...

Re: Plasma 5.6 changes setup of KDE's multiple virtual desktops

To avoid spreading misleading information, I've changed the Subject line of this thread. What has changed, is the way most people (apparently) had been configuring these desktops -- has been removed. After more back-and-forth with stevek at the KDE forum, and duplicating his directions, I think the ...

Plasma 5.6 changes setup of KDE's multiple virtual desktops

The purpose of this post is to save other Mint KDE users a lot of time, in trying to fix something -- that can't be fixed. I thought I was the first to discover the 'bug', but it's not a bug, but a regression designed into KDE about two years ago. That's around the time when this KDE bug report was ...

Re: Where to post bug report for a Sarah-beta KDE version?

I'm not sure how an important option could have disappeared from one KDE version to the next, so I'm exploring the possibility that the lapse may have occurred at KDE, rather than with the Mint developers. For the reference of anyone following this thread, it will be interesting to see if the folks ...

Re: Where to post bug report for a Sarah-beta KDE version?

OK, I've pasted and posted it. Thanks for letting me know where to put it -- I wouldn't have guessed on my own that it was for detailed bug reports -- I thought it was just for comments about people 'liking' the new version. Some of the formatting didn't work out, but I see no option to go back to t...

[RESOLVED] Missing KDE setting in Rosa-beta

I believe I've found a bug, or at least a regression, in the KDE Sarah beta version, but where to post it? Where it is right now , it is very difficult to know whether or not someone is replying to it. The new KDE Mint beta version looks really great, and I'd like to use it when the stable release c...

Re: Lip-sync problem appears when P.A.Equalizer is activated

:) Many thanks for the helpful suggestions.
Yes, I do have an older system and see how this may contribute to the problem. I may wait until Mint 18 to see to what extent the problem persists, and re-do the equalizer according to your suggestions (that are quite new to me) at that time.

Re: Lip-sync problem appears when P.A.Equalizer is activated

I have learned a lot from your reply, many thanks. Actually, it's not with an AV system, but rather with a desktop computer and its attached monitor. You raise a good point, that there may be a variable amount of delay, somewhere else in the audio path, other than the multiband equalizer. Instead of...

in that link you gave me http://www.nbcnews.com/video i have lag [also,] and [the audio} is not in sync [with the video] ... I assume you're also having it when the audio goes through the equalizer, but the audio returns to normal synchronization when the equalizer is bypassed? Then, I think we are...
