Re: Printer Daemon not updating

The more I think about it, the more clear the problems become. 1. Network Printer This printer usually prints fine. We have 2 networks. It is on one and I'm on another. There is a computer that acts as a spooler, connected to both networks. It shares the network printer from one network to another. ...

Re: Printer Daemon not updating

I have narrowed it down a little more. This problem only happens with printers shared by other computers (in my case, shared by linux mint computers). In addition, the printers often either don't print or have massive delay before they print. I also can't delete or cancel their jobs from my computer...

Printer Daemon not updating

After printing the daemon in the system tray doesn't keep up to date. It keeps jobs in the queue that have already been printed. They say either processing or pending. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Thanks,
Scott

Re: LMDE: A Great Disappointment <Decision Time>

It's too bad that you've had such a tough time. I personally have had everything work better on my laptop with LMDE than with LM 10. I'm very pleased with my choice to switch. It runs faster, too. I'm using a ThinkPad SL510.

In the startup programs there is a "login sound" which can be deactivated, but I'm not sure how to change the sounds.

There are enough free books, free chat services, and free forums to consider the training free. Can't expect people to start spending their personal time too with you, so that you can learn an OS that can be learned by reading and trying.

I figured it was doing what it said, but that was what was set up by default and not by me. Thanks for the tip to get it fixed.

FAT32 in fstab and changing permissions [SOLVED]

I installed LMDE and added my FAT32 during installation. My problem is that I can't write to the FAT32 partition in LMDE as a normal user. Only root can make changes. I tried using chmod to change the permission, with no avail (permissions remained unchanged). I tried using chown to change the owner...

Re: Exaile problem

I just removed the Exaile in the repository via Synaptic, downloaded 0.3.2 from http://packages.debian.org/sid/all/exaile/download, and installed manually. Worked like a charm. I clicked on this link and added the repository there. Then I removed exaile and then installed it. Not it works. Thanks f...

Exaile problem [SOLVED]

I can't get exaile working. It didn't work with the first release of LMDE and doesn't work with the lastest, either. I have the 32bit version, running on my netbook HP 2133. Here is the output from trying to start it in the terminal. /usr/lib/exaile/xl/library.py:17: DeprecationWarning: the md5 modu...

Setting up static ip and dns

I am using italc a classroom of computers, but the ip addresses keep changing. I understand how to set the ip address with the networking icon in the system tray, but then my internet doesn't work. I figure it has something to do with the dns, but I don't know enough to know what to do about it. Can...

Audio player problems

I have installed both exaile and decibel-audio-player, and they start up just fine. I add the music, ok. I try to play, they both close immediately. Here is the output for exaile: -------------------- (exaile.py:3030): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: Trying to dispose object "sink", but it still ha...

Re: Locking settings

I liked just changing the owner and permission on the desktop. That helps. I also like the add-on Public Fox...except it doesn't block adding bookmarks, though it says it does.

Now I just need to try out the desktop background cron. That would be enough for me.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the replies. I couldn't get the volwheel thing to install properly, so I decided to get "volumeicon". Somebody had suggested it for the new crunchbanglinux. You can see it here http://www.softwarebakery.com/maato/volumeicon.html Working fine with the scrolling, but it doesn't do...

New volume controller, etc.

I'd like to get a volume icon in the system tray that is interactive. I want to be able to scroll over it and it change the volume and that my Fn keys can control the volume. This works in LXDE, I think and in Peppermint. Is that easy to change? Any tips?

Thanks,
Scott
