Re: Can't view .jpg file from Samsung phone....

I have just tried this with my Samsung 4 phone and it worked OK with photos. I tried to run a video and it did't work. I copied the video to the computer's hard dive and it ran OK. Try copying the picture(s) to your hard drive and see if that helps. I have Dropbox installed on both the phone and the...

Re: copy text on highlight and paste with middle button

I haven't got a mouse with me to try but you can copy from a Terminal any highlighted text with [Ctrl]+[Shift]+C or Right Click the mouse and select 'Copy'.

Re: Read Only USB

I have not tried this but if you: -

Format the USB with EXT3 or 4 (Gparted can do this)
Add the files to the USB
Change the 'Owner' of all the files to 'root'
Change the file 'Permissions' to 'Read only'

That may prevent them from deleting the files, might be worth a try.

Re: Installing Linux MInt 18.0 on an SDD

I've not tried this on your Dell model but I have installed Mint on SSDs without any need to make BIOS changes. It might be an idea to see if there is an update for your Dell BIOS. You did not have to purchase a DVD to get Mint, it is available for free from here https://www.linuxmint.com/download.p...

Re: Chromium & Flash

There is something going on with Chromium. It's not just Flash but now some sites are now coming up with security warnings. It might be best to wait for all this to be sorted.

I'm not sure what the problem is but try installing Shutter, it is the best for screen shots.

Re: Mac building Linux on Windows Hard drives

You say "I've then been using UNetBootin to create a bootable Linux mint USB drive". If this works then just boot up the computer from the USB and click install. Mint will sort out the hard drive for you, just select the "Use the whole drive for Mint" option when asked.

Re: Mint Cinnamon and Blackboard Collaborate

Have a look at the following link. Mint is based on Ubuntu so don't worry that this referees to 'Ubuntu'. http://collaborate.tlc.aston.ac.uk/help-support/original/preparing-your-computer-for-your-first-collaborate-session/ubuntu/ If you are intending to use specific software that I found at the link...

Chromium & Flash

Can someone tell me the correct way to add Flash to the latest version of Chromium as the previous method does not work on a new installation of Mint 18 Cinnamon 64 bit. The way I have done this before is with the following command but this now fails. sudo apt-get -y install pepperflashplugin-nonfre...

How did you install the driver? Mint comes with 'Driver Manager' that will install the correct Nvidia driver for you.

Re: Hiding app labels on the panel

I am guessing at what you are trying to do but I think you want to hide the panel. This can be done in Cinnamon by searching for 'Panel' in the menu and selecting 'Auto hide panel' but you have not told us which desktop you are using. If I am wrong please add more detail to your question.

I have checked on 17.3 and 18 and Evolution is showing in Synaptic on both machines. Try a different software server.

Re: mint 18 mate new install, weird situation

I just went to the Autotraders site (on my Raspberry Pi 3, just in case!) and had no troubles or strange warnings. Did the note request money as well or was this your system just hunting around trying to mount your encrypted disk?

Check the settings in 'Mouse and Touchpad'. Does the mouse wheel raise and lower the volume if you hover over the sound icon?

Try booting to Desktop the 'Restore' route. Then launch 'Driver Manager' and see if there is a recommended video driver for your system that you can install.
