Re: MD5sum not match

Is there any extra precaution to take for torrents ?... always been afraid to use torrents. :? Perhaps a couple of notes, As always check the md5 (or sha1) sum against that on the official Linux Mint download sight. Also as torrents are a peer to peer download it is polite and useful to seed that t...

Re: MD5sum not match

Have been downloading Mint 12 and LXDE with same issues. Didn't know could change LXDE to Mint 12. :o http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=1937 You may need to enable the correct repositories, but the LXDE and GNOME desktops are built on the same base, so it should be simple ( note: you should be able to a...

Re: LMDE Wrong resolution

Some questions. 1. What is the host OS (the OS you installed Vbox on, windows, Linux and what version) ? 2. Which Vbox do you have (open source license or PUEL) ? 3. Have you installed Vbox tools ? 4. have you activated 2D and/or 3D acceleration ? You do realize virtualization such as Vbox will neve...

Re: MD5sum not match

You are certainly doing the correct thing by not installing when the md5 sums don't match. One thing you could try is to download a different iso, perhaps LXDE and if the ms5 sums match, add GNOME through the package manager. I'm using Linux Mint 12 kde 32 bit and the Md5 sums match. Have you tried ...

Re: Mint KDE 13 Release ?

I don't understand the anty KDE sentiment here!!!!
The way I see it KDE fills a gap that Gnome can not, to suggest that mint can't equal openSUSE with KDE seems defeatist, so do you believe no point in trying? ?

Re: Fan issue

The obvious Question, what hardware do you have?
From the command line run

Code: Select all

lspci -nnk
copy and paste the output here.

Re: Mint KDE 13 Release ?

I'm running mint kde, and I like it, I agree it's not polished, but the suggestion here is that the kde desktop itself is to blame, I believe it has more to do with the manpower available to produce that polish, perhaps a few more kde experts offering to assist would help. openSUSE with kde gives a ...

Re: Repartitioning without damaging restore partitions

Is there a way that I'll be able to repartition my drive and still have my recovery partition accessible by Grub or by HP's native recovery option? A backup of all partitions/data you want to keep would be my first move. I would, after backing up HP_TOOLS E: (sda4?) delete it, restore to a logical ...

Re: Repartitioning without damaging restore partitions

I have not gotten my linuxmint livecd yet. I'm probably going to download the newest one rather than look for the one I downloaded earlier. Windows disk management shows my partitions, I assume in order. I've also found that I use the regular MBR system The info you have supplied is useful, when yo...

Re: Repartitioning without damaging restore partitions

Hey, I've reset my computer to factory defaults and an posting this from windows 7. I want to put Linuxmint back on my machine to use as my primary OS, but I also want to keep my current partitions. Re: Grub / Bcd trashed -- Cannot boot anything!

Got a disk of Windows 7 HP 32-bit (this PC is licensed). Windows 7 Repair ignores the boot record issue. A quote from the above mentioned ms support article. Note When you are troubleshooting startup issues by using the Windows RE, you should first try the Startup Repair option in the System Recove...

Re: Grub / Bcd trashed -- Cannot boot anything!

To get Win7 starting again, I decided to carefully (?) look at GRUB.CFG and my boot partition. While making a belated backup copy of the BCD file, I found BCD.LOG. It sure looked like a backup of BCD. So, I renamed BCD to BCD.LOG-MYNAME as a backup, and copied BCD.LOG to BCD. Now the PC won't get t...

Re: How to add Linux Mint 12 to the Windows boot.ini?

when i boot my computer, it loads straight into WinXP I assume this is because of me only having one OS under the [operating systems] section of the boot.ini file. Well, actually, its because windows intentionally overwrites the MBR so as to make any non microsoft OS unbootable, (No, there is no ne...

Re: Please help with installation mint 12

I think I need to familerise myself with partioning, I'm in the dark here. I won't try to explain partitioning here, but I can make a few relevant points to your situation. The problem you are seeing is that there is no free space available in which to install Mint. This is normal, as windows will ...

Re: Please help with installation mint 12

I have downloaded a partion program and created a partion in XP If you choose this method you should use the tool to resize the partition to create free space only, not also then create a new partition. I now see a further entry in the drives list I.e /dev/sda/3 ext 3 5815 MB size. 192 MB used. we ...

Re: Please help with installation mint 12

One more suggestion that can make things easier.
Create the free space before attempting the install, you can use windows tools, Linux tools on the Mint liveCD, specialist liveCD like PartedMagic, or whatever.
The installer should then offer as the preferred install option, that free space.

Re: Please help with installation mint 12

Choosing replace windows says i will loose all my photos docs, etc which I am not worried about so maybe this is the option to go for. I just didn't want to loose the windows OS at this stage. This option will, to my knowledge, (I don't use windows, nor have I used the Mint installer more than once...

Re: Please help with installation mint 12

I'm replying because no-one else has,... I run installs of multiple OS's, The info you have given is useful, but what is on /dev/sda1, /dev/sda2, and /dev/sda3 ? Which partition(s) would you like to resize/move to make room for the Linux partitions? This is not as difficult to decide as it may seem,...

Well, if you really want to boot PCLOS via Mint's grub2 menu, Not really, again, just interested in learning some of the pitfalls so as to avoid them. Googling the error message I gave at post #1 This message occurs on systems using grub2, often on ubuntu after a kernel update and when the boot loa...

Re: PCLinuxOS does not boot after installing Mint [solved]

Thanks for the reply. The question as to why grub2 did not boot the install on sda3 was only curiosity, all systems are now booting from grub legacy.
