Installing kde-full on Mint 19.1

Hello, I just installed Mint 19.1-Cinnamon (Tessa) and then kde-full on top of it. I did the same under Mint 19 (Tara) and everything worked o.k. - then. Now, on the contrary, when I select "Plasma" when booting, the desktop comes up, but it "limps" (golly, does it limp!). I cannot do things like mo...

Video Streaming: Sound and Display not synchronous

Hello, While showing an audio/video stream (such as a programme of Austria's ORF TVThek) on my Sony Laptop on Mint 17.3-32-bit works just fine (browsers: Firefox, Vivaldi), sound and "graphics" are NOT synchronous on my recently installed Mint 18.2-64bit (same hardware). In general, sound lags behin...

SOLVED: Kontact crashes and Font problems

Hello again,
I have just activated driver Nouveau for my Linuy Mint 18.2-amd64 Sony Laptop. And - EVERYTHING now works fine. I.e., the days of the month don't get cut-off at the bottom anymore.
Great! Thanks for your help in any case!

Re: periodic heavy load on network

Hello again, One thing I noticed just now: smbd starts at boot-time on the Debian 9 server. When I then start my Laptop Mint 18.2 64-bit system - connected through Ethernet LAN to the sever - everything is o.k.. I can see and cd to the server-shares from the client Mint system. Everything is fine - ...

Re: periodic heavy load on network

Hello,
Thanks for your hints! Tried them both but it didn't do the trick.
I could send you some wireshark output, if you so desire. Are there any
special parameters I should specify there?
Thanks in advance for your help and - have a good Sunday in spite of
working!

Re: periodic heavy load on network

Hello again,
Just tried out samba file sharing using Mint 17.3 on the client side. No high load there! So, I suppose the issue must
have something to do with MInt 18.2.
Regards,
H. S.

Re: periodic heavy load on network

Hello, Thanks for your help! I have now installed wireshark and collected some information - even though I am not familiar with it. In general, looking at the KDE-Systems Monitor, I can see that heavy traffic on the LAN is directly related to starting/stopping the smbd daemon on my debian 9 server s...

Re: periodic heavy load on network

Hello again,
By the way, the heavy network load may last for even a minute or more, then there is a break of a minute or two, where the load is "0" - only to recur again at the same hight level...

periodic heavy load on network

Hello folks, Looking at the systems monitor on Mint 18.2-KDE, I periodically see high transmission activity going on - both transmit and receive. Any ideas, why this might be the case and how I might find out the culprit? It might just be between my Mint laptop and my own private Debian 9 PC server....

Re: preventing mysqld from starting at boot

Thanks for the hints! Everything o.k. now. I actually hadn't installed a mysql server separately. The mysqld process shown on the system monitor belonged to Akonadi. It uses over 220MB storage. After installing MySQL-Server 5.7 I now see TWO mysqld processes running.

preventing mysqld from starting at boot

Hello,
I am not sure whether this is the right forum section to ask this question, but...
how can I prevent the mysqld service (daemon)from automatically starting at
boot time. I only need it on rare occasions. I run Mint 18.2-64bit.
Thanks for any hints

Re: Kontact crashes

Hello, Some more googling produced that this issue was reported before. There is a bug 353240 (duplicate of: Bug 381635 - Broken layout: Month view does not follow font metrics), fixed in 5.5.40 and included in release 17.08. See https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=353240. I wonder how I could appl...

Re: Kontact crashes

Hello again, I installed all the M$-Fonts (including Arial - which by the way I have used myself and liked as well for a long time!) both into /usr/share/fonts and .fonts of my home directory. Also went into systems settings to make sure Arial is available both system-wide and "personally". I then w...

Re: Kontact crashes

Hello,
As I mentioned, I purged the culprits and then re-booted without any problems. By the way, printing of a month's calendar events works perfectly - i.e. without cutting off the bottoms of the day numbers.
Thanks for your further help.

Re: Kontact crashes

Hello, Well, when trying to install NVIDIA-340, I also installed a couple of "suggested" packages, such as bumblebee. The result was that I couldn't get the system running. In the end, I could delete that package (as well as primus) in recovery mode. Now things work again, but, as you can see from t...

Hello again - and thanks for your very pertinent help! I installed Mint 18.2 64-bit and Kontact now works fine.
