Re: Black Screen Upon Waking

If caps lock is not functional, that means it's more than just a video issue, your whole system is hung. Did you try the suggestion from the wiki page about disabling KMS? I'm not really sure how to do that though to be quite honest. Sorry, if it's not a video quirk, I don't really know where to go ...

Re: Another black screen

All you did was install nvidia-glx-ia32 ? The problem is that the nvidia-glx-ia32 package is only the x video driver and user space libraries... you MUST also install the nvidia kernel module... and you MUST update the nvidia kernel module every time you upgrade your kernel or upgrade your nvidia-g...

Re: Nvidia Graphics Drivers and Update pack 4

It is pinned  Well, the link is at least. I just personally recommend the dkms method (there's 5 methods total). And yeah, you always have to redo the kernel module when updating your kernel, regardless of what method you used. Technically, the DKMS method SHOULD automatically redo the module ...

Re: Nvidia Graphics Drivers and Update pack 4

To display the contents of a log file, use the cat command cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log It might say permission denied... if so, preface the command with sudo. Also, if it's too much for you to read on your screen, use the less command instead less /var/log/Xorg.0.log And then use the arrow keys to scrol...

Re: Black Screen Upon Waking

Ok, I have a possible fix. First thing's first... check to make sure it's just your screen that's blank, and not a fully frozen system. Easiest way to try this is to press the caps lock key on your keyboard, and see if your caps lock light on your laptop responds to it. If the caps lock light respon...

Re: [GIVEN UP] A greater screen resolution than LMDE thinks

I know this is done and over with now, but you could have modified/created an xorg.conf file and manually added the resolution you wanted. Something like this: Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Device "[Insert Device Name from "Device" section above]" Monitor "[Insert Monitor Name from "M...

Re: [sort of SOLVED] Irregular scroll with synaptics touchpa

I think I mentioned this before my instructions in the post above, actually. :-) I just didn't read it. :D Mea culpa. I just have not touchpad and am a fiend of building. So this was just for my fellow LMDEs. I would still recommend the availabe version. And what about the backports version? http:/...

Re: [sort of SOLVED] Irregular scroll with synaptics touchpa

Instead of building I would just take the official repositories for LMDE: http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=1836 Again, my instructions are not specific to LMDE... they are specific to regular Debian. Debian has already purged the 1.5.0 binary from their repos. I'm not sure if LMDE still has it availabl...

Re: [SOLVED] Kernel 3.2 686: Mouse broken

I don't know how to fix your mouse (or how it was automatically fixed), but I just want to help you out with some stuff that you seem confused about. 1) There was no problem with having a "486" kernel installed. Oftentimes, kernels are named i386, i486, i686, etc, basically just to let you know the ...

Re: [sort of SOLVED] Irregular scroll with synaptics touchpa

Just out of interest: Where do you have 1.5.99 from? This is the package xserver-xorg-input-synaptics, right? Because even in testing I only have version 1.5.0-2 I got it in my most recent software update from the official Debian repos. I can't speak for LMDE, as I said before, I am using regular D...

Re: [sort of SOLVED] Irregular scroll with synaptics touchpa

Update: I just found this http://lists.debian.org/debian-x/2012/03/msg00285.html Looks like the problem is with synaptics driver 1.5.99 (which is the version that you and I both have). That guy claims that downgrading to 1.5.0 fixes the problem, whereas booting into an old kernel has no effect. I'm ...

Re: [sort of SOLVED] Irregular scroll with synaptics touchpa

Just adding a me too type of post. I just updated my Debian Testing (Wheezy) tonight with an apt-get dist-upgrade, and I am experiencing the same exact problem. The VertScrollDelta work around described above is helpful, but definitely not a fix or solution. I agree with the previous poster that it ...
