Re: Revert to old version of Cinnamon? edit: broken cinnamon

Ahhhh problem solved. That seems to have been exactly what the issue was, downgraded muffin as you said and Cinnamon works fine now (and is reverted to UP3 as I wanted).

Thanks a lot for your time :)

Re: Revert to old version of Cinnamon? edit: broken cinnamon

Actually it's a command to start Cinnamon. It's "cinnamon --replace" (without the quote marks of course) That command gives me: cinnamon: symbol lookup error: cinnamon: undefined symbol: meta_prefs_override_preference_location It looked like it was going to work, gnome shut down and it looked like ...

Re: Revert to old version of Cinnamon? edit: broken cinnamon

OMG... I tried downgrading it and it worked OK, so I thought it would work for you. Installing from Synaptic is the same as compiling from the stable branch. I don't know how to help you with this :( Perhaps try to run cinnamon --replace in a terminal? No problem :D How do I run --replace? I tried ...

Re: Revert to old version of Cinnamon?

Just tried completely removing Cinnamon through Synaptic and then re-installing it. No change, still when I log in using Cinnamon I just get my desktop background with no taskbar or anything :(

Re: Revert to old version of Cinnamon?

Tried upgrading (downgrading) through Synaptic and I'm not sure what it done but it killed Cinnamon  Now when I log in to Cinnamon all I get is my desktop background, no taskbar or anything else. Using Gnome just now to post this. Not sure how to compile from stable branch. I see the tutorial f...

Revert to old version of Cinnamon? [SOLVED]

I recently upgraded to UP4 as it has a bug fix in it which is very useful for me (stops Skype windows stealing focus), but have a few issues with it that are mildly irritating (killed Conky, systray icons randomly disappear and a couple of other little things). I'm not complaining at all, I knew I w...

Re: Is there a Video Converter Like Xilisoft Video Converter

Some people have had success running Xillisoft in Wine (I just done a quick google to find out). If you don't find a suitable Linux program then try installing Wine (a program that allows you to install and run windows programs in linux, it's in software manager) and then installing Xillisoft with W...

Re: No idea on how to install Wireless card driver

I rebooted the desktop and tried entering the command cd /home/yourusername/desktop with my username in it of course but it said No such file or directory. Just so you know, /desktop will give you "no such file or directory" but /Desktop (capital D) will take you to it. It's case sensitive. I still...

Re: No idea on how to install Wireless card driver

I'm a bit of a newbie too so I don't know for certain, but it looks like that is a generic device (as opposed to made by a manufacturer like TP-Link). The drivers that came with it on a disc will be Windows drivers so they won't work on Linux (again, bit of a noob myself so someone may prove me wron...

Re: Skype insists on popping up [WRONG PLACE]

I'm sorry if you feel you're being hassled. I don't think you are, and I'm certainly not trying to hassle you. am I missing something here? You are posting on an OS-specific support forum about a specific problem with a specific application that, by your own admission, occurs on multiple operating ...

Re: Skype insists on popping up over other applications

Was there any reason why I shouldn't have posted it here? :? I am also a Mint user, and have registered here. Should I ask questions here about repairing my vehicle? What if I run Mint on a netbook while in my vehicle ? If this forum had a section called "Mint in your vehicle issues" then ye...

Re: Skype insists on popping up over other applications

Not sure why you are asking this here, http://community.skype.com/ seems a better option. Well partly I posted here because this seems to be the section of these forums to post queries/problems regarding applications you are running under linux mint, and because I have an account here already and I...

Skype insists on popping up [SOLVED]

When I am using Skype on linux it pops up a full screen window any time I get a message, regardless of what I am doing... so for example I am typing this right now but if I get a message skype pops up fullscreen and my typing of this would continue in the message box on skype (I look at my keyboard ...

Re: [solved] Window Borders/Folder theme

Ok it seems it's fairly easy anyway. Just download Gtk themes (gnome-look.org is good) and then extract them into /usr/share/themes, then to apply them go to cinnamon settings -> themes -> other settings -> gtk+ theme.

Re: [solved] Window Borders/Folder theme

I'd like to know this too, I just searched the forums for exactly this and was happy to see a [SOLVED] thread with the title I need. It really misses out on the spirit of forums when people just post that they solved their own problem but don't share with others how they done it  Anyway I'll ...

Re: Can't boot into LiveCD/USB at all - Mint13 Cinammon 64

I got it to work eventually. I had tried booting from windows disk (and even an old scratched up ubuntu disc) to make sure it was definitely an issue with mint. It was. How I eventually got it to work was I remade the USB using unetbootin instead of universal-usb-installer, it still refused to boot ...

Can't boot into LiveCD/USB at all - Mint13 Cin 64 [SOLVED]

I accidentally nuked my computer a couple of nights ago, was messing around with partitions (drunk) and for some reason managed to wipe everything (everything that mattered anyway - OS and I think the MBR). When I switched the computer on nothing happened, it just came up with an error without reach...
