Re: [Howto] Install Wine (and other debs) using Local Reposi

I knew about the separate folder (hasn't it been around for a long time?), but I prefer to see everything at once.

Re: UPDATE PACK 5 FEEDBACK THREAD

Happened to see this thread while googling for other stuff, so I'm gonna complain :D I decided to upgrade at work (most of the updates were downloaded from previous attempts to do so) and as expected some stuff started to break as I was working, but I was able to cope by using Thunar in place of Nau...

qBittorrent package is broken

https://bugs.launchpad.net/qbittorrent/+bug/990284 The link basically says that LMDE needs to update qBittorrent and libtorrent-rasterbar to fix it. Deluge was my second choice, but that didn't work either, so that will have to be updated as well. I tried to use qBittorrent shortly after installing ...

Re: How do you promote Mint?

So it seems the way I decided to promote is the same way many people have done it, just let interested people come to you, it's so much easier than trying to promote it to people who will never bite. According to many posters here, it also helps just do something related to linux in a public place, ...

[REQUEST] Info about LightDM

I dislike MDM, so I was going to switch to GDM3, but then found that Ubuntu uses LightDM, which was created by Robert Ancell because he thought GDM3 was bloated or something. So now I'm curious about it and would like to get some info about it. This is what I have so far (not sure of the validity th...

Re: View the path in nautilus

I don't have Mint installed here, but I can tell you how I did this for Nautilus in Fedora 16, hope it helps: $ gsettings set org.gnome.nautilus.preferences always-use-location-entry true Alternately, install dconf-editor, then: org > gnome > nautilus > preferences > select “always-use-location-ent...

[Howto] Install packages from a conflicting repository

If the package you want to install isn't part of an apt repository, use this howto instead: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=197&t=99465 By conflicting repository, I mean has packages that also exist in other repositories you use, otherwise just drop it in sources.list and that's it. Than...

Re: [Howto] Install Wine (and other debs) using Local Reposi

Almost got things to work from info on your post at top of page. Trouble occurred where it said to add "debfile:$repo/ to /etc/apt/sources.list Was unable to open /etc/apt/sources.list Says sources.list is not a file or directory. Don't know how to add anything to the /etc/apt/sources.list if I can...

Re: [Howto] Install Wine (and other debs) using Local Reposi

Is there a way to install the latest wine without compiling? I don't know how to do that at all. Can wine be installed in LMDE update4 by a newbie from packages in software manager or another source where it is easy to do, sans much editing, no compiling, I am a real novice at Linux. Still would lo...

Paraphrase: It isn't working! Sorry about the delay, I've been filling my free time, so I have less free time to think about how to spend my free time . I'll see if I can make the forum email me when new posts are made here. Strange that it adds 3 entries to Packages.gz, do you have another de...

Re: [Howto] Install Wine (and other debs) using Local Reposi

I'm not sure I get it, do you want a menu item for winecfg, menu items for your Windows applications, or something else? Using the default prefix, the command you would put into New Item creator is just "wine $program", but make sure to escape your spaces or wrap the filepath in quotes. Example: win...

Re: [Howto] Install Wine (and other debs) using Local Reposi

Right click the menu icon and click "Edit Menu", goto the desired category, click Add Launcher, the command is "winecfg".

Posted from my phone (which means the instructions aren't exact for now...)

Edit: Apparently it was "New Item" not "Add Launcher".

Re: [Howto] Install Wine (and other debs) using Local Reposi

The latest wine version available on http://lamaresh.net/ is "1.1.42" (I assume that is what you were referring to), which was released 2010/04/02. The newest version of wine is "1.5.2". I've changed the note about 3D to make it clear that I'm talking about the proprietary nVidia driver. The way I h...

[Howto] Install Wine (and other debs) using Local Repository

READ: I am dumb  This is still useful if the package(s) you want are not part of an apt repository, but otherwise, I recommend this: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=197&t=101123 This was done with the aim of installing Wine, but will also work for any other deb that you would down...
