On the other hand, celluloid will be installed no matter what.
Like how Totem was in past versions?

EDIT: Oh, I'm sorry; it's xplayer.

Re: How to Keep VLC in Mint 19.3 Tricia

All right, thanks. EDIT: Now gm10, if I understand you correctly, if mint-meta-codecs excludes VLC in future releases, then that would mean that in future releases, then it's up to the user to install VLC separately when they are prompted to include VLC since the option in the Mint installer will on...

Re: How to Keep VLC in Mint 19.3 Tricia

Which is the same as 19.3 except the "shopping list" in 19.3 does not include VLC.

True/false?

Re: How to Keep VLC in Mint 19.3 Tricia

OK, so I can pick and choose between VLC, Totem, and Celluloid without the risk of destroying mint-meta-codecs?

Re: How to Keep VLC in Mint 19.3 Tricia

I hope this does not come as a stupid question anyway. My inquiry comes from my observation when I try to remove VLC, to test, it takes mint-meta-codecs along with it when I type apt-get purge vlc. This is why I am asking the question; I apologise if it is stupid. Thank you for your answer, gm10. ED...

How to Keep VLC in Mint 19.3 Tricia

I just read about the plan that the designers of Mint has with replacing VLC with Celluloid, and I do not agree with the move. It is my intention to keep VLC running in 19.3 and later versions in my customised versions of Mint, thus the making of this thread. How can I use the command line to target...

Re: Turning off TPM

Sorry to keep you guys up in the middle of the night to answer my idiot posts.

I will go through with the plan to not touch the settings, erase Windows 10 Home, and install Linux Mint 19.1.

Or maybe I can wait until Mint 19.2 and do it. How long do I have to wait for that one?

OK, bye now!

Re: Turning off TPM

Sorry if I sound like that I need to have my hand held by a techie: even with TPM on, I can install what I want, True or false?

You can line me up against a wall and have me shot later for asking stupid questions, but answer it first! :)

Re: Turning off TPM

Sorry if I didn't make this clear, but before one of my computers (that have Mint) died out, I did use Mint. I have no need for Windows 10 features, and I just want delete the hell out of Windows stamped out. Wine will be the tool to make games work, if I can, but that isn't even the factor. If a ga...

Re: Turning off TPM

Thank you for the prompt reply. When you say "fairly basic," do you just mean, "tolerable" and not having to change anything in the BIOS, like you previously said? The reason I picked this computer is that it's the cheapest; the Canadian all-purpose franchise store, Factory Direct, is selling it for...

[SOLVED]Turning off TPM

I am planning on purchasing a computer, namely an HP Compaq 6005 Small Form Factor with a 64-bit AMD processor. While the documentation I have accessed suggested that there was a Trusted Platform Module on the motherboard in the form of an "Embedded Security Device," there was no suggestion that the...

Re: No software updates since upgrading to 19.1

I just got a tzdata upgrade.

From what I gather, tzdata stores and uses regional time data from your part of the world and updates accordingly.

It must be true that the developers are taking a break, or getting high.

Well, the Gambas programming application had an update.

It's not a security update, but it does show that mintupdate is working.

Re: Update Problems

True gm.

It's just that I need some assurance that there's nothing wrong on my end.

Very well, I'll consider this thread solved.

Sorry to the developers for the whining, safe and festive holiday, and I'll just take a shower.

Since the distro was released, which is around last week.

Let me get this straight: you haven't had any updates lately either, right?

I must be jumpy.
