SOLVED: WiFi stops working : Stops associating with AP

Been a little over a week now that I've been on travel and the machine was reachable the whole time - seems to have stayed associated and solid.

I marked it SOLVED - thanks for the easy fix!

Re: WiFi stops working : Stops associating with AP

Seems plausible as it indicated Power Management was ON I didn't think of that because it used to be OFF , some update somewhere must have changed that ... and NetworkManager reported signal strengths so I thought it was ON but maybe it messes up things in other ways too. I disabled and will watch o...

SOLVED: WiFi stops working : Stops associating with AP

Hi, I've been using my Mint system for a while in the last couple of weeks an issue has crept in that causes my wifi to just stop working. It works at boot for somewhere between a few and 12 hours and then stops. Network Manager shows it's connected and good signal strength but all communications st...

Re: Moving SSD to New PC Build - Driver Issues?

I just wanted to let you know things seem to be working now @smg I focused on getting the SSD back into the old system with network connectivity to get the kernel updated. After that was successful I moved it over to the new system and all seems well :) So thanks for pointing me in the right directi...

Re: Moving SSD to New PC Build - Driver Issues?

Yeah, it's weird - I have tried different methods on network access - like ethernet, 2 different wifi networks and even tethered to my iPhone - all appear to work (as in the driver) and can ping an IP address but DNS fails. DNS entries look normal. I tried to force DNS to 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 no diff...

Re: Moving SSD to New PC Build - Driver Issues?

The system will run in reduced graphic or compatibility mode so I could update the kernel that way ... but networking doesn't work. That's not entirely accurate - the wifi adapter comes online and the ethernet adapter comes online - both seem to get a valid IP address but it seems to me DNS doesn't ...

Re: Moving SSD to New PC Build - Driver Issues?

Thanks for the response - I've had a heck of a time getting things to work (with Mint) - I managed to get the log but then networking failed. So now I'm posting this using a live Ubuntu 20.04 USB simply because the Thunderbolt Display and the Networking both work at the same time, but I'll have to g...

Moving SSD to New PC Build - Driver Issues? [solved]

Hello, Wondering if anybody can help point me the right direction before I re-install things or start posting lots of irrelevant logs. I had latest Mint (with Cinnamon) setup and working nicely on my PC/Server. The HW was failing (not SSD) and was causing issues so I ordered a new Intel NUC with a C...

Re: Can't mount USB flash drives

phd21, thanks a lot, again, for taking the time to reply to my question. Unfortunately, this is not really a hardware issue, as both Windows and a KDE install don't have any problem reading from the flash drives. It seems to be something that broke in my Cinnamon / Linux Mint setup. I am seriously ...

Re: Virtualbox with LMDE, dependency hell! (SOLVED)

I also wanted to say thanks, work like a charm for me.

I wanted to report that I followed the instructions with a newer version of Vbox than referenced in this help - Version 4.3.12 - and followed the instructions exactly the same and had perfect results first time.

Re: Networking Doesn't Start Untill AFTER I log in

So you hacked code to get a DHCP address at boot (without loggin in) and were successful? I really need a static IP at boot - this is frustrating to hear as automatic network starting at boot is a requirement for many server type applications or even desktops that get remote access behind a router -...

Re: Cant See Ubuntu box from Mint???

Well, OK, that worked with the IP address. Now, what does it mean that the IP addy works and the name doesn't? If it were a website it would be a DNS issue but what about on the local subnet. Well if you want it quick and your ubuntu server is a static IP just add a line to your hosts file, this gi...

Networking Doesn't Start Untill AFTER I log in

Hello, I have a machine I frequently use but rarely sit at. I normally SSH into the machine and do some tasks via CLI or even launch an X window. After moving from Mint 5 to Mint 7 I noticed a difference that is causing some problems. Networking doesn't start up until I log in to an account. When th...

Re: Upgrade with second partition mounted as /home.

Now when I'm in my account and I try to "switch user" I get an error about my user not having permissions to create additional logins. ~/.Xauthority file badly configured or missing. 100 Not authenticated .Xauthority is some encrypted file that all I can see as readable is MIT Magic Cooki...

Re: Solution for Atheros AR 5006 / 5007 Cards

I was never able to get either of these ideas to work ... spent a lot of time and suffered a lot of frustration ... it's really a shame some stuff in Linux is still so cryptic and difficult, because much of the user experience otherwise is just fantastic. I put up with a fair it but it makes me real...

Re: Upgrade with second partition mounted as /home.

You would need to create each user (using adduser from the command line) but you would need to create them using the --UID option or create them in the correct order to get the permissions on the home directory's correct. i.e. the first user is 1001 the second is 1002 etc There are some faq's avail...

Re: Upgrade with second partition mounted as /home.

I just used this method and can confirm it works (for the primary account). In my case I had Mint5 running with a separate /home partition and upgraded the system to Mint7. Problem : I had several user accounts in /home partition. The primary one worked as mentioned, but there are others that are th...

Re: Strange Network Behavior - disable windows browsing?

confirmed solution - rm ~/.linuxmint/mintDesktop_smb_browsing reason - xfcemintDesktop was checking to see if this file exists, and if so was restarting the fusesmb process. Found by (in virtual machine): sudo rgrep / fusesmb 2> /dev/null Also Husse, your blacklisting command overwrote the existing...

Re: Strange Network Behavior - disable windows browsing?

Don't know where it's started but you could blacklist it When I did a re-boot the fusesmb process was running again. Still trying to sort out how/where/when this module loads so I can disable it such that it only runs if you manually start new, never automatically. Still trying to figure how how it...

Re: Strange Network Behavior - disable windows browsing?

Don't know where it's started but you could blacklist it echo "blacklist "fusesmb" | sudo tee - a /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist Interestingly enough this solution doesn't quite work ... the command line itself achieves adding the blacklist line to the file, and I double checked it worked...
